I really wanted to like this book. The narrator was amazing and the premise sounded great. I just couldn't get into it. I must have restarted it three times before I finally made myself stick to it. In the end I listened to it at triple speed just to finish it. I just couldn't make myself care about Johannes Cabal. I like anti-heros as much as the next gal but this guy was just "anti", no "hero".
At first I thought the narrator was monotone but that was before he got to Dr Siri's voice. Dr Siri was so dry and amusing that the contrast between the narration and Dr Siri's actual voice really worked so stick with it for that first half hour and you will be rewarded.
The mystery was interesting but not all that mysterious. This story was all about the interesting characters and their interactions.
Listen to this book and you won't regret it.
If you like the Saw movies, you will like this book. It was just horror-porn. It wasn't even remotely realistic so it wasn't really scary, just gross.
I usually really enjoy this series but there wasn't much story in this book. There was a whole lot of Eve working through her issues. It got kind of old after a while. I'll be happy when the next book comes along since hopefully Eve has all this out of her system.
It's a bad sign when you switch the audio to double speed to get the book over with.
I was really looking forward to this book. It seemed like the kind of book I love. End of the world plus robots! I couldn't wait! I just didn't get that end-of-the-world thrill. There was no sense of fear or urgency for most of the book. There were a few good scenes but most of it was just kind of dull.
