  • In the Woods

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 23 mins)
    • By Tana French
    • Narrated By Steven Crossley

As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children, unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a 12-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery.

Dottie B. says: "Very mixed feelings (semi-spoilers included)"
"how can such a great book be so disappointing?"

This was such a great read, I was dying to get to the end but not wanting to let the characters go... and then with a quarter of the book left the author decides to make the protagonist act totally out of character, to make his fiesty love interest run away and to never answer the mystery the book started out with! I was sooo disappointed. It could have been soo terrific!

  • Twilight: The Twilight Saga, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Stephenie Meyer
    • Narrated By Ilyana Kadushin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Bryan J. Peterson says: "A waste of my time this wasn't."
    "A thrilling read"

    Beautifully written. Excellent character development.
I immediately bought the other three books in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book though I am 65 years old... a diehard "Buffy" fan.

  • The Whole Truth

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty

Pender Associates is a shadowy organization that specializes in managing seemingly impossible situations for its clients. Sometimes, those services extend to managing - and creating - armed conflict.

Dan says: "Not up to standands"
    "Fluff from a good author"

The plot had enough intrigue and the "bad guy" had an idea I enjoyed exploring but the characters... could the hero be more heroic? So handsome, so big and strong and fearless, strong enough to handle the most difficult assignment and can kill easily. And yet, he had fits of pique, looses his temper, cries easily, is moody, feels deeply and suffers constantly. I felt like this was written with the idea of what the author thought a woman might like to read.

  • Odd Thomas

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By David Aaron Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

"The dead don't talk. I don't know why." But they do try to communicate, with a short-order cook in a small desert town serving as their reluctant confidant. Odd Thomas thinks of himself as an ordinary guy, if possessed of a certain measure of talent at the Pico Mundo Grill and rapturously in love with the most beautiful girl in the world, Stormy Llewellyn.

    Denise says: "No Doubting Thomas"
    "Lovable Odd Thomas"

I knew nothing about the fact that this was the first in a seriws of Odd Thomas books. How marvelous this book was! I was drawn into the story but the characters were developed so beautifully that I could hardly put the book down. I wanted to spend more time in with them! I immediately bought the others in the series and can't wait to re-connect with Odd.

  • When You Are Engulfed in Flames

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By David Sedaris
    • Narrated By David Sedaris

Once again, David Sedaris brings together a collection of essays so uproariously funny and profoundly moving that his legions of fans will fall for him all over again. He tests the limits of love when Hugh lances a boil from his backside, and pushes the boundaries of laziness when, finding the water shut off in his house in Normandy, he looks to the water in a vase of fresh cut flowers to fill the coffee machine.

    Kelley says: "Smokin'"
    "Smoking cessation can be boring"

I expected much more from Sedaris but outside of a few, very few, incidents this book seems to be focused on his attempts to quit smoking.. which did not interest me. The opening of the book was hilarious so maybe that was why the rest was such a letdown

  • The Pillars of the Earth

    • UNABRIDGED (40 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Ken Follett
    • Narrated By John Lee
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Got 40 hours to kill? You’ll find the time when you start listening to Lee’s take on Follett’s epic – and widely celebrated – novel of 12th-century England. The Pillars of the Earth tells the story of Philip, prior of Kingsbridge, a devout and resourceful monk driven to build the greatest Gothic cathedral the world has known...of Tom, the mason who becomes his architect - a man divided in his soul...and of the beautiful, elusive Lady Aliena, haunted by a secret shame....

    CynNC says: "Captivating"

I expected more... for all the word of mouth hype it seemed to take forever, and the author seemed to think so too as he kept having to remind us of things he had shared with us in a previous chapter. It had potential that was never reached.

  • Duma Key: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By John Slattery

A terrible accident takes Edgar Freemantle's right arm and scrambles his memory and his mind, leaving him with little but rage as he begins the ordeal of rehabilitation. When his marriage suddenly ends, Edgar begins to wish he hadn't survived his injuries. He wants out. His psychologist suggests a new life distant from the Twin Cities, along with something else.

Amazon Customer says: "Play the Book and Let the Book Play You"
    "Riveting & Chilling"

One of King's best ever! The narrator was absolutely perfect!
