"My name is Kvothe. I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep...."

They first appear as a series of dots on astronomical plates, heading from Saturn directly toward Earth. Since the ringed planet carries no life, scientists deduce the mysterious ship to be a visitor from another star. The world's frantic efforts to signal the aliens go unanswered. The first contact is hostile: the invaders blast a Soviet space station, seize the survivors, and then destroy every dam and installation on Earth with a hail of asteriods.

Carved into a moving island of ice twice the size of the United States, Ice Station Grendel has been abandoned for more than 70 years. The twisted brainchild of the finest minds of the former Soviet Union, it was designed to be inaccessible and virtually invisible. But an American undersea research vessel has inadvertently pulled too close - and something has been sighted moving inside the allegedly deserted facility, something whose survival defies every natural law.

A Ho Hum book. Not good but not bad enough to return. James Rollins has written far better books. It's like he was under pressure to write something and this was the result.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Most every book gets to the heart of the matter fairly soon after you know the problem. This book however goes into very discriptive detail about every thing and its all very intersting and keeps you riveted to the story. I found that because of this you remember much more before the next listen.
It was a very good book as most of this authors books are. I would highly recomend this book to any mature reader. It is long but worth every moment. Looked forward every day to be able to listen to it at night. I found the book 11-22-63 to be a bit better listen but thats just my opinion. Narration was quite good except for one character but once again maybe it was just me.

This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

If you could sum up The Stand in three words, what would they be?

    Possibly the future

Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?

To many vivid characters to pick one.

    Any additional comments?

Very well done. It will be hard to find another book that will interest me more. The depth of the characters, the self image of being there. The unknown future.

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book had good flow at times. It really was for twenty or under.
    At times hard to follow.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

More suspence. More of a story. Nothing was that interesting except for assumed revenge

What three words best describe Nick Chamian’s performance?

    Not very good

Was The Paladin Prophecy: Book 1 worth the listening time?

    Not worth listening to.

    Any additional comments?
