It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

I have to say, I am kind of an idiot when it comes to reading thrillers: even though novels give clues, I never guess who the killer is, and I am always surprised by the various surprises the author places in the novel.

This one is no exception, but yet it stands among the best thrill novels I've read or listened. There is at least one OMG moment, and there are plenty of WTF, what's he gonna do? I cannot say more without adding any spoilers but the unique thing about the novel is that it is as much a character novel as it is a detective-style thriller; in fact, at the end of the novel, one gets to know characters in a very deep manner. It also all feels to fit into place: characters appear to behave in a way consistent with what we hear.

Btw, the reading is delightful, crisp with very nice variations, goes very well with the book.
