Orson Scott Card tells a tale long awaited by millions of fans: the story of how Bean turned away from his first friend, Ender, and became the tactical genius who won the Earth for Ender's brother, Peter, who became the Hegemon.

    "Achilles Heel for Audible"
    Overall

I agree with the main annoyances of the recording previously posted by many others. There were just too many glitches in the production for them to be overlooked. The story was decent, but the audio blunders were very distracting. This book needs to be re-recorded with everyone on the same page and properly edited. A free download of an acceptable recording, for those of us who purchased the original, would also be nice.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

Suzanne says: "The scare is in the human nature under stress."
    "Great Potential, Falls Short"
    Overall

The premise is riveting- a small town cut off from civilization by an inexplicable force and the aftermath that follows. The storyline delivers, but King decided to inject his extreme left political bias into the tale. The villains and fools in the book basically echoed the Keith Olbermanns' and the Michael Moores' of the world, with a vitriolic view of those even slightly right of center. The story was pretty good though. Until the ending. Really? Did I just dedicate that many hours of listening and.... Another gripe is the reader- surfer dude does a southern accent(why the lifelong local Maine bad guy has a southern accent is another issue. Lefty stereotyping again)? And all the children have a cold. Buy the audiobook and see for yourself. The story had huge potential.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "Great Story!"
    Overall

This book is very compelling. The characters are interesting and very well defined. Many twists and turns caught me by surprise. The translation from a Swedish novel was perfect- I easily imagined myself a native Swede, just following the story. The narration was well done. This book took me off guard. I did not expect such a rich and complex story from a translated novel. Goes to show that language holds no barrier in literary mastery.

The Seanchan invasion force is in possession of Ebou Dar. Nynaeve, Elayne, and Aviendha head for Caemlyn and Elayne's rightful throne, but on the way they discover an enemy much worse than the Seanchan. In Illian, Rand vows the Seanchan back as he did once before while in Ghealdan, Perrin faces the intrigues of Whitecloaks, Seanchan invaders, the scattered Shaido Aiel, and the Prophet himselg.

Ryan Cannon says: "Worth it in the end."
    "Deeply Disappointed"
    Overall

I bought this book in hardback when it was released several years ago. I put it down less than 1/4 the way. I tried again to listen to this book, and came to the same conclusion- the book is horrible! Nothing happens but some juvenile politicking, constant descriptions of facial expressions, braid pulling, skirt smoothing, and Rand repeating that he is afraid of going insane. I devoured all of the previous books with vigor, even when the series started to slow down. Listening to the Path of Daggers was an exercise in patience, leaving me deeply disappointed in a series that I had so dearly loved.
