"Save Your Credit"
This is a one dimensional story with no character development. It reads like a shoot-em-up video game. In fact some of the video games I've played are more realistic than this story.
"WOW!!!"
I read the reviews and thought they were probably overstated. I was very wrong. This book is great and I highly recommend it. It rings with authenticity.
"Poorly written politically motivated CRAP!"
The author didnt even take the time to create original characters. Instead he takes well known actual people and spends HOURS giving his warped view of them. The story actually takes about 45 minutes to tell if you remove the unnecessary and boring crap espousing the authors right wing opinions. The narrator does a poor job also. What a waste of my money. This will be my last Stephen Hunter purchase!
If you believe that a sixty something year old man with an artificial hip is still taking down young Special Forces types, then this is the book for you.
"A disappointing purchase - less than one star."
Baldacchi tries too hard to paint his main character as a hard-bitten maverick. For example he spends an entire chapter trying to show how little his heroine, Mace, cares about her rich mother and step-father. A character who really was a bad-ass maverick and cared so little for these people would never give them a second thought, let alone take the time to visit them.
Maces sister is the Chief of Police in a large metro city who investigates murders personally? Not likely. Even more unbelievable is that the Chief would allow an ex-con to accompany her to the scene of a murder where news media and political opponents would observe this??
The more I listened, the more I felt like I had wasted my money. Im surprised that Baldacchi would submit this kind of dribble for publication.
