First of all, January LaVoy is a wonderful narrator. For me, a narrator can literally make or break a book. LaVoy, was able to keep me interested. There are so many twists and turns in this book that, I may have lost interest if the narartor was of the monotone runon type. This was not the case. Although, I found myself having to rewind a few times, during the story, just to understand what was actually happening and why, it was a enjoyable read, and it kept my interest. I highly recommend the book. The story had it all. Good guys, bad guys, true love, Wall Street, betrayal and even time travel!
At the risk of inciting an audible riot, dare I say that Corrie James narration was reminiscent of, perhaps, one of the all time, best narrators, Davina Porter? So there! I said it! The audible sky did not fall! It's just my humble opinion, but I believe that James has the makings of a narrator similar to that of the great, Davina Porter. Davina Porter is one of my all time favorite narrators. Especially in the Outlander series! I'm sure I'm not alone, expressing how difficult the task of finding my next book was, once my amazing adventure with Gabaldon's Outlander series was over. So, you can imaging how thrilled I was once I started to listen to the Highlander's Reward. I sincerely hope that James is given the opportunity to develop her talent. Unless she has an alias, Corrie James is not listed as narrator on any other books on Audible. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of Eliza Knight's Highlander series. Note to the powers that be..... Don't forget that there's something to be said about sticking with what works!
This story touched my heart! Twists, turns, love, romance, and THE perfect ending. Need I say more?
Reminded me of a southern version of "The Thornbirds". I really enjoyed listening to this book. I ordered it immediately after I finished listening to another great generational saga, "Roses", by the same author. I want more! Meacham does a fine job of character development and has a true talent for telling heartfelt stories. I am still thinking about the characters, long after I finished listening. The only negative; finding more audiobooks that will keep my attention, as these two have. Well done Lelia Meacham!
I enjoyed this book very much. Several times during the book my heart was racing with the suspense. Reminded me of that movie "Taken".
If you're into Suzanne Brockmann and Robyn Carr, then you should definitely love this series! Each book in the series gets better and better! Narrator, Johanna Parker....you are such an amazing story teller! I can always count on you!
I hate to be redundant, but I just know how much I appreciate an "If you like that, then you'll like this" lead. Tyler can definitately join the Brockmann and Carr club! Each book in the series gets better and better! Great narration by Johanna Parker! Johanna Parker Is one of THE BEST!
If you're into Suzanne Brockmann and Robyn Carr, then you should definitely love this series. Maybe it's just me, but this 1st book, started a little slow. To be fair though, when I say "started", I mean only the first 2 chapters. Then everything was off and running! Each book in the series gets better and better! Great narration by Johanna Parker! Johanna Parker Is simply one of THE BEST!
Like we don't have enough liberal b.s. to contend with in our everyday lives! The last place I want to hear the liberal point of view, more importantly, conservative digs, is in my chicklit, romance, and romantic mystery/thriller world of audiobooks. Save it for the lame stream media. Maybe I'm just over sensitive right now, due to the sad state of the economy, the constant threat of terrorism, and the complete lack of leadership in America. However, losing myself in a good romance, or mystery can really do the trick keeping my spirits up! To be fair, it goes for ALL the political rhetoric, that is so shamelessly shoved down our throats, everyday. My husband watches to Fox news constantly. Although, I tend to agree with their views, enough already! I don't want to hear anymore! Some may say, "Where exactly, in this book, is political b.s.?" It's not obvious, nor is it readily throughout the entire book. I just dont want to hear it at all! The story actually started out kind of cute, and the narration was above average. I just don't want to listen to anything with judgmental liberal undertones. If nothing else, think about it, in these terms. Listening to audiobooks is not the most inexpensive form of entertainment. If I were an author, in this genre. I'd adventure to create a work that is as engaging, to as many possible. This can be accomplished without sacrificing ones individuaI convictions. I would avoid the gratuitous slights, especially those that may offend the very people that can now, and will continue to purchase my efforts. I'm just saying....
