"Not your average Civil War book"
I will definitely listen to Love and War again. If history class had been this interesting in school, I probably would have paid more attention! This is NOT another factual account of Civil War battles. This is a look at all the things you didn't learn in history class tied together in a story line that will let you see and feel both sides of the the most atrocious event in American history. The characters were so real. You loved them, you hated them, you understood them, and you didn't. You come away from it feeling like you have lived through that period in history.
Obviously, North and South, however, I liked this one much better. Often you think you will be disappointed by a second book in a series, or by a book that has been made a movie or t.v. show, but this one will change your mind.
Without spoiling anything, it involved Sport, the horse.
Impossible due to the length, but I listened non-stop for days!
If you like historical fiction, don't miss this one! I was very moved by it. It is definitely one of the best uses of my credits in recent years. I can't wait for the third installment in this series to be released in Audio!
"My favorite part was the music at the end!"
The music at the end meant I didn't have to listen to it any more! I couldn't have cared less about the characters and what happened to them. The book jumped around from character to character, time to time, and was very difficult to follow. It was one of those books you force yourself to listen to until the bitter end because you spent your precious credits on another over-hyped book. The narrator was very good, and that is perhaps the only reason I made it to the end! I was very disappointed.
"This will make you miss Lorelei King!"
If, like me, you found Janet Evanovich by her more recent books, and then were tempted to buy this book in anticipation of the movie, don't bother! The narrator's breathing drove me crazy. It may have just been the production back in those days that couldn't edit it out, but it was way too distracting. I look forward to each book narrated by Lorelei King and will definitely skip all those narraged by C. J. Critt in the future. Even on sale, it is not worth it.
"Painful listen"
If you have not read or listened to any books in this series, please use caution with your credits. It was not at all what I expected from reading the synopsis and reading the glowing reviews. It is not a good stand-alone book in a series. I feel like I listened to twenty hours of whining. It was not pleasant, in fact, my worst purchase in the last three years.
