I loved this book. I loved it in hard copy. I *LOVED* it in audio. Phil Gigante is amazing. Without a doubt, he is the best choice to narrate Christine Feehan's books. (I actually like him well enough that I am going to get other audios just because he narrated them).
He brought Feehan's amazing characters to life. This book is amazing in it's own right, though. Intense romantic scenes. Great fight scenes. Brilliant characterizations that make you root for the hero and *want* the happy ending. She just keeps getting better and better as her various series continue! She is never stale or formulaic. In short? Great book and Great narration!
If I could give this more stars, I would. Again - LOVE LOVE LOVE Phil Gigante! Jane Brown does a great job!
Combining Phil Gigante and Jane Brown with C.Feehan? A total hit out of the park!
This is a definite MUST for your library!
Book - as usual, great characters and amazing romance scenes. Vividly written fight scenes! This is a great book!
Narration - Intense and sexy. Gigante and Brown work *very* well together. They both 'read' the characters with such emotion and intensity. And, unlike too many I have listened to, they seem to have actually read the book prior to narrating it!!
GREAT BOOK AND GREAT NARRATION!!
I love C.Feehan books but for some reason did not like this one as much. I really like having both a male and female narrator! And Phil Gigante is, without a doubt, the best there is. Period. I like Jane Brown as well (but P. Gigante is just amazing). So, I know the narrating was great and not the reason for my lack of feeling this one like the others. Characterizations were good and the story was solid. I can't put my finger on it.
But, this book is a good addition to a library! And if you like C.Feehan, you will like this one!
As in other AQ reviews I have done, I love her books and have read and reread them. I however, am very saddened that I have this in my library. Anne Flosnik's narration made this too painful to actually listen to for very long. I didn't finish Ravished and I could barely get through the first few chapters of this one. I would not have even tried had I not already bought this at the same time as Ravished (meaning I did not know how terrible it would be).
Reasons I do not like Anne Flosnik's narration. Her voice is thready and has a tendency to wobble. Although I do appreciate the British accent! Her attempts at a masculine voice is a disaster. And there is just something very annoying about the way she measures her phrases. I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks and trudged my way through some horrible 'reads', but I am tired of doing that.
I truly love Amanda Quick. And I am truly saddened by the fact that almost all of her books seem to be narrated by Anne Flosnik. The other disaster is Josephine Bailey (who narrates other AQ books)...*sigh*
The book - Great characters, fun predicaments, great romance!
The narration - almost painful to listen to (although I appreciate the British accent) because the voice was thready and her attempt at a masculine voice was a disaster. I actually could not finish listening to this book (although I have read it several times) due to the narration.
So, while I love Amanda Quick in hard copy, I will not be spending anymore money on her audiobooks.
Kay Hooper's Bishop series is awesome. This is another hit! Great characters and twisted plot. I do so love her plot lines. Narration was solid and well done. Dick Hill does a very good job! Even if you have never read or heard a Bishop's novel before, you can read/listen to this without getting lost - a good stand alone!
Ok - I love Christine Feehan. I love her books. She has great characterizations and a wonderfully vivid way with words and phrases. I just do not think Rebecca Cook is the best person for this type of book. She does straight narration. And, frankly, Phil Gigante has given me higher expectations - he narrates other books in Feehan's various series. I think that Christine Feehan's books deserve someone who can deliver a passionate and intense narration. So - the book itself gets ***** (5 stars) but the narration gets *** (3 stars) Averaged **** (4 stars).
I *love* Patricia Briggs. It's Lorelei King I could do without. Every sentence ends in a breathy suggestive way that makes the character of Mercy Thompson at best a bubble headed bombshell. Think Marilyn Monroe without the personality...
I feel that Lorelei King would be GREAT narrating for VI Warshawski or Mae West. NOT for characters like Mercy. There isn't a breathy bombshell bone in this character's body so why would ANYONE in their right mind pair this book with that narrator?
I had to go buy the actual paper book to read because I could not finish listening to the audio. I feel a terrible disservice was performed to this book and I can only hope that Lorelei King does not ruin another great Patricia Briggs book.
Another huge home run for the team of Pratchett and Planer. I have yet to forgive TP for going with that Briggs person. I have the audio tapes of this and the quality on the tapes is MUCH better! This download had issues of "slowness" and dragging throughout the majority of the book. I rated this a 5 because the book is awesome and the actual recording is perfect - just the download from Audible has issues!
I have been meaning to read this book, but never have the time to invest in the project...and it IS a project. the book is HUGE! So, I was thrilled to get the audio instead (for those 4 hour commutes to and from work) then I listened. It was awful! The narrator actually made me sleepy. I tried for over 2 hours and just could not continue. I had to switch to a different book so as not to fall asleep at the wheel!
