In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Nick says: "An entertaining, yet unfortunate story."
    "Great stories..."
    Overall

The only way to read this book is to listen to Carrie, herself, tell it...her wit and charm and emotion come through hilariously..

Before Gabrielle Hamilton opened her acclaimed New York restaurant Prune, she spent twenty fierce, hard-living years trying to find purpose and meaning in her life. Above all she sought family, particularly the thrill and the magnificence of the one from her childhood that, in her adult years, eluded her. Hamilton’s ease and comfort in a kitchen were instilled in her at an early age when her parents hosted grand parties, often for more than one hundred friends and neighbors.

Melinda says: "A Little Prickly--But Yummy"
"Delicious. Her writing is completely delicious."

If you could sum up Blood, Bones & Butter in three words, what would they be?

    Delicious, consuming, intriguing..

What did you like best about this story?

The stories about business and food preparation in her restaurant and her trips to Italy, but mostly her superb writing ability. The descriptiveness of her words, even when writing about banal things, was just like eating the best chocolate dessert ever, all the way through.

What about Gabrielle Hamilton’s performance did you like?

    Loved it. loved her.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wanted more. I didn't want it to end. I loved her in the end and wanted the story to keep going.

    Any additional comments?

    more please..

In My Stroke of Insight, Taylor shares her unique perspective on the brain and its capacity for recovery, and the sense of omniscient understanding she gained from this unusual and inspiring voyage out of the abyss of a wounded brain. It would take eight years for Taylor to heal completely. Because of her knowledge of how the brain works, her respect for the cells composing her human form, and most of all an amazing mother, Taylor completely repaired her mind and recalibrated her understanding of the world.

    Lisa says: "very, very illuminating!"

What did you love best about My Stroke of Insight?

Jill's account of her stroke, from the perspective of a brain scientist, was one thing, but her new perspective on life and how our brains actually work and how we could have a say in changing that and not being victim to it, was the best lesson for me personally. I love Jill's voice, have seen her on t.v. and could just picture her reading this the whole time with her neat personality. Loved it. Keep listening to sections over and over to help me through my everyday challenges..

What was one of the most memorable moments of My Stroke of Insight?

The way she lives in the moment and controls her brain and the ways the left hemisphere can affect her mood or day..

What does Jill Bolte Taylor bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her neat personality and inflection from the heart.
