It wasn't drawn out, but it's just that there was something happening in different places at different times continually. Yes, definitely, a second read is necessary. This is far more complex than the first book; lots of themes, plots and characters, far too much to absorb in a 'first' read. I intend reading (listening) to them both books again soon.

I've always loved the ironic style of LB but I didn't see this one coming. I thought, just the usual stereotypical hitman type book but must be well written as it's by LB. I have only read his 'burglar' series prior to this book, but how wrong I was. This book is brilliant and worth every last cent of what I paid. I love the Keller character: a real person with feelings, likes, dislikes and desires just like the rest of us and, ay, a really nice person to boot! LB is an excellent writer; a master storyteller with an almost unnatural tallent for wit and irony.
I can't recommend this book, now a series, high enough.

I purchased this as a 'thriller' and was disappointed. All the hype and reviews led me to believe that this was the case, however it was not unless you get your thrills from a lot of protracted legal discussion over complex financial dealings. I tried, until just past midway through and then made the decision that life was too short, and put it to bed. I hope you have better luck, but I like to be entertained.

yes, thank you, Beverley, this is better than 1 and possible 2 too. I liked 2, but this is different again and certainly full of suspense and has plenty of thrills as well. I like the premise from a suspense/thriller point of view and would not be surprised if at least some of this book was partly true. Human beings can wallow in the depths of depravity as well as reaching the heights of greatness through creativity & achievements to better the human condition. This book takes us on that journey and the classic fight for good over evil. All in all and enjoyable listen and narrated well.

10 years on this is still a top rate suspense thriller that is well crafted by Ms Gardner and narrated well by Anna Fields. The perfect recipe includes enough threads to keep it a continually interesting and evolving story with enough characters to keep you page turning to find out more about them and how they're involved in the cleverly building suspense that Ms Gardner commences weaving from the very first page.

yes, an interesting premise and frightening because it becomes more believable everyday with medical technological advancements. The story, however, was one dimensional and simplistic, not enthralling or particularly suspenseful and it lost me, finally, with it's turning to back God who will fix everything..........Although the premise is interesting, I can't recommend as a great read and it only gets 3 stars because of the premise....the narrator, too, was also a bit lackluster, but I guess, on reflection, she matched the tone of the book.

It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't particularly good either. It seemed that the author made up her mind how many victims there would be in novel and then had to think of a variety of ways and circumstances to kill them off; some succeeded better than others but basically it felt like there were too many and it was drawn out. I found my attention wandering which is always a bad sign for me to view a book successful. I had to rewind on numerous occasions and then asked myself whether it mattered if I did and usually it didn't. By the time I got to the end and the 'perp' was unveiled I had forgotten who he was anyway. I can't honestly recommend it, but I will read the second one because the reviews say it's better. I hope you do better with this book than me, if you decide to buy it.

i don't think so; I would need to try first. The trouble here was that there were glowing endorsements from other 'readers.' It's makes me wonder if any of them can be trusted. I have never read a Dekker before and I am sorely disappointed. Not sure above Glover; he reads it all in an 'over the top' kind of way' like it's a bit of a satire, maybe it is but I'm not getting it. Perhaps it's supposed to be funny but I'm also not getting that. Simply put, it's just plane silly!

While some are better the others, the JP Beaumont series has to rank in my top 100 listens. I particularly enjoyed this one. If you're feeling like an easy laid back listen that is entertaining with a bit of mystery, suspense to and sex to give it just enough spice then this series is for you. I usually have a JP Beaumont, in between my other reads to clean and refresh my palate. Just keep coming JP.........

Yes, I would, but I'd give it a while. The book was very entertaining and had a good balance of all the necessary elements to satisfy a reader with good helpings of humour, mystery & suspense and the characters were developed well. I loved the way the story transformed from something quite ordinary into something quite extraordinary and the ending was most satisfying. I'd rank this very easily in my top 100.

I loved the concept itself that a machine - being disguised as a building - was all that kept this world, our world, continuing. What a wonderful imagination Peter Clines has.

Ray Porter's 'performance' was great in that it did not seem like a performance. It became a necessary component of the book itself. It did not seem like a 'reading' but more of wonderful story telling always interesting and never boring.

I wouldn't describe my reaction as extreme but there were definite chuckles and a little nose blowing at times. I guess my biggest reaction was tiredness, as I could just not put this book down.

I loved the book, and anyone who loves the occasional sci-fi - without going off planet - will too. Thoroughly recommended.
