New York Times best-selling author Alison Weir is renowned around the world for her chronicles of Britain's royal families. Here she turns her focus to the enigmatic former mistress of John of Gaunt, Katherine Swynford, who would go on to marry her lover and become Queen of England. Through Weir's captivating prose, listeners are treated to a rousing profile of a dynamic historical figure.

    "Couldn't Get Through It!"
    Overall

This book is basically a history book in historical form. Dates, places, names. The information hasn't been woven into a historical story, but was left to the dull historical facts. Judith Boyd is a wonderful narrator and is the only reason I got through the first 3 hours. I have purchased SEVERAL books in this time era and this has to be the most boring of all that I have had the misfortune to listen to.

In an attempt to find out, Mary Roach brings her tireless curiosity to bear on an array of contemporary and historical soul-searchers: scientists, schemers, engineers, mediums, all trying to prove (or disprove) that life goes on after we die. She begins the journey in rural India with a reincarnation researcher and ends up in a University of Virginia operating room where cardiologists have installed equipment near the ceiling to study out-of-body near-death experiences.

    "Funny & Clever"

Enjoyed the humor very much. Thought provoking. Recommend it highly even though it seems "dark" in nature. (I am NOT a dark person by ANY stretch of the imagination but things that make you think beyond what you know it excellent mental exercise!

For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Listened to this book as well as, "Spook" and loved them both. I love that her books are funny even though it makes you think beyond what you may normaly venture to go. Not gory, just though provoking!

    Overall

If you are looking for religious confirmation then this would be your book. I mistakely thought it was more spiritual in nature as opposed to Biblical based "proof." (Biblical proof is NOT proof.)

I could only listen to about 30 minutes hoping it would get better, alias, it did not. I only wish the description was more forthcoming to WHAT her proof really was. I feel that I wasted a credit and feel mislead that it was of a more "spiritual" nature and NOT CHRISTIAN/Bible based.

    Coffee Lover says: "Loved it!"
    "Wonderful Listening!"

I love the author's sense of humor but the narrator REALLY brings it to life. She is expressive in her reading as opposed to just a dry read.

Couldn't stop listening! Going back for the rest of the series!
