From batting averages and political polls to game shows and medical research, the real-world application of statistics continues to grow by leaps and bounds. How can we catch schools that cheat on standardized tests? How does Netflix know which movies you'll like? What is causing the rising incidence of autism? As best-selling author Charles Wheelan shows us in Naked Statistics, the right data and a few well-chosen statistical tools can help us answer these questions and more.

Not everyone can say they enjoy statistics but when people that it is one of the up and coming fields for the coming decade, more might find they can like it. This would be a great book for anyone preparing themselves to take a college level stats class, whether it is mathematical or social stats it is going to give you reasons to be interested than classroom time is bound to do. The author's use of the same situation to build cases for different stats methods is helpful in understanding different uses for statistical data and research. I am quite sure that this is easier to listen to than to sit down and read...at least for me!

Now, picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night plunges Diana Bishop and Matthew Clairmont into Elizabethan London, a world of spies, subterfuge, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the mysterious School of Night that includes Christopher Marlowe and Walter Raleigh. Here, Diana must locate a witch to tutor her in magic, Matthew is forced to confront a past he thought he had put to rest, and the mystery of Ashmole 782 deepens. Deborah Harkness has crafted a gripping journey through a world of alchemy, time travel, and magical discoveries.

I love historical fiction, this one is very well done, and Harkness did an amazing job of throwing in creatures without it being gratuitous or seeming like all the other vamp and witch stories.

After traveling through time in Shadow of Night, the second book in Deborah Harkness's enchanting series, historian and witch Diana Bishop and vampire scientist Matthew Clairmont return to the present to face new crises and old enemies. At Matthew's ancestral home at Sept-Tours, they reunite with the cast of characters from A Discovery of Witches - with one significant exception. But the real threat to their future has yet to be revealed, and when it is, the search for Ashmole 782 and its missing pages takes on even more urgency.

Set against a vivid backdrop, The Last Summer (of You and Me) is the enchanting story of a beach-community friendship triangle among three young adults for whom summer and this place have meant everything. Sisters Riley and Alice, now in their 20s, have been returning to their parents' modest beach house every summer for their entire lives.

Running with Scissors is the true story of a boy whose mother (a poet with delusions of being Anne Sexton) gave him away to be raised by her psychiatrist, a dead ringer for Santa and a lunatic in the bargain.

Seeds: Polly has an idea that she can't stop thinking about, one that involves changing a few things about herself. She's setting her sights on a more glamorous life, but it's going to take all of her focus. At least that way she won't have to watch her friends moving so far ahead. Roots: Jo is spending the summer at her family's beach house, working as a busgirl and bonding with the older, cooler girls she'll see at high school come September. She didn't count on a brief fling with a cute boy changing her entire summer.

Who the heck came up with the chapter breaks...HORRIBLE with ear buds in your ears in the quiet! It was a bit distracting from a continuation of the Sisters once removed.

In Destined for Destiny, "George W. Bush" offers listeners an intimate, plainspoken, and sometimes articulate look at the character-shaping achievements that led to his inevitable rise to the office of president of the United States. Written from the heart, not from the brain, this definitive autobiography takes listeners on a journey through the 43rd president's life.

    Overall

This was a waste of publishers time not to mention those of us stupid enough to buy into anyone writing what was billed as something positive about Bush. I guess I should have gotten my clue from the "Unauthorized Autobiography". I can't image that even anyone that hates our President would find humor in this. I usually finish even books I do not find interesting in hopes that I will find a redeeming quality, couldn't do it with this audio, HORRIBLE. Hate the voice, hate the material, waste of my time and money. Can't rate this on the stars since it won't allow less than one star.
