Gavin Guile is dying. He'd thought he had five years left - now he has less than one. With 50,0000 refugees, a bastard son, and an ex-fiancée who may have learned his darkest secret, Gavin has problems on every side. All magic in the world is running wild and threatens to destroy the Seven Satrapies. Worst of all, the old gods are being reborn, and their army of color wights is unstoppable. The only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole 16 years ago.

Gavin Guile is the Prism, the most powerful man in the world. He is high priest and emperor, a man whose power, wit, and charm are all that preserves a tenuous peace. But Prisms never last, and Guile knows exactly how long he has left to live: Five years to achieve five impossible goals. But when Guile discovers he has a son, born in a far kingdom after the war that put him in power, he must decide how much he's willing to pay to protect a secret that could tear his world apart.

This book is Awesome! Great story, amazing character, impressive settings, and an AWFUL narrator... This guy should have just stuck to the beach, I had trouble imagining any of the characters as anything other than tanned surfer dudes during the entire book. But don't let that stop you! Brent weeks is a talented writer and I will be pushing this book on to all my friends for years to come.

It's hard to find work as a doctor when using your real name will get you killed. So hard that when a reclusive billionaire offers Dr. Peter Brown, aka Pietro Brnwa, a job accompanying a sexy but self-destructive paleontologist on the world's worst field assignment, Brown has no real choice but to say yes. Even if it means that an army of murderers, mobsters, and international drug dealers-not to mention the occasional lake monster-are about to have a serious Pietro Brnwa problem.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

His first book was SO GOOD. How did this happen? Maybe I'm letting a few small points sour the whole book for me, but that's what it was, Just a few small points that ruin the whole thing. A few moments where you think, "There is no way he is seriously putting this in" but then he does! I don't want to spoil the book for you, I'm honestly a fan on his writing, but this is no where near "Beat the Reaper"...

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The Characters were enjoyable and there are plenty of funny and cool moments to make this book somewhat enjoyable. I didn't dislike the book at all, but he could have done a much better job...

  • World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War

    • ABRIDGED (6 hrs and 3 mins)

The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of 30 million souls, to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet.

Steve says: "Good but Too Short!"
"awsome book, but i'm a little bummed."
