"I've experienced a whole lot the last few years and I have a lot to share. So I hope that you'll take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy the words I've put together for you in this book. I think you'll find I've left no stone unturned, no door unopened, no window unbroken, no rug unvacuumed, no ivories untickled. What I'm saying is, let us begin, shall we?" (Ellen DeGeneres)

I'm a huge fan of Ellen's sweet humor and I enjoyed getting away from the world's problems for a few hours while listening to this book. It sure helps to have the actual author as narrator.

B.J. Novak's One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories is an endlessly entertaining, surprisingly sensitive, and startlingly original debut that signals the arrival of a brilliant new voice in American fiction. A boy wins a $100,000 prize in a box of Frosted Flakes - only to discover how claiming the winnings might unravel his family. A woman sets out to seduce motivational speaker Tony Robbins - turning for help to the famed motivator himself. A new arrival in Heaven, overwhelmed with options, procrastinates over a long-ago promise to visit his grandmother....

This book was a delight--the short stories were unique, surprising, and beautifully written, not to mention laugh out loud funny. Novak is a genius and I will seek out his work in the future.

  • Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook

In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

I devour books like this, no pun intended. I'm a foodie that enjoys Anthony's sharp writing and humor. This book was so much more enjoyable to me than Kitchen Confidential. He's an older, wiser man and it's reflected in a more introspective writing. I especially enjoyed his thoughts on vegans--so funny and true. Also, I love the fact that this book was narrated by the actual author. That makes a huge difference to me when selecting books.

Before Liz Lemon, before "Weekend Update," before "Sarah Palin," Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true. At last, Tina Fey's story can be told....

Boy, did I need this book! I can't wait to re-listen to it in about one month to make sure I've extracted every laugh possible. Love the fact that she narrated this book--I felt like she was in my kitchen gabbing away, making me laugh my guts out! Might have to buy a box of Depends before I listen to it again. Sure beats turning on the news.

Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

    Overall

I only started this book because Oprah recommended it. The characters and narration bored me from the beginning and then it got worse. I decided I didn't want to waste any more "life" hours listening to this book. I gave it at least 12 hours since I had paid good money for it but once I made the decision to move on, I felt so happy! I downloaded "The Help" and felt enriched by that listening experience. I will definitely read more reviews before choosing my selections in the future.
