"Interesting Details. Superb narration."
Wonderful period information. Full of generally unknown detail. Paints a portrait of an era, as well as a ship. The narrator captures voices from the past.
"Simply dreadful."
I've read his more recent books. Much, much better. This particular book is excruciating. Poetic detectives? Puerile discussion of sexual preference. Dreadful.
Not Peter Robinson.
Maybe. But his "female" voices are pretty awful.
All of them.
Don't buy it.
"This was awful."
The plot was confusing. The male reader in a falsetto voice for female parts was cringe worthy.
"Superb!"
Haven't read the print version.
This is a completely new take on Edward VII. The book got wonderful reviews in Britain. I can see why.
"Trying to make a heroine where one didn't exist."
I think the reader is supposed to feel sorry for the Windsors and the mess they made of everything. The book comes across as empty as its subjects.
"Too many incidental names. Not enough substance."
The author doesn't really get around to the subject until well into the book. Pretty disappointed.
