I originally purchased this book when I saw it "on the cheap" on one of Audbiles specials. I had the lowest of expectations just judging from the cover art and the name of the book but as I drive allot and the price was right I figured I would give it a try.
MUCH to my delight this was a fun, action packed and funny as hell book. I ended up well hooked on the series and have now read them all. Larry has a good imagination and a heck of a sick sense of humor, which I can relate to.
Bottom line............Loved it.
Fast, violent and suspenseful
This series stands on its own. The nearest I could compare would be Monster Hunters International but that is as close as I can think of off the top of my head. Both series are well written and both sets of characters are so well written that they each have their own "charisma" to them. If John Mayberry wrote weather reports I would read the damn things. He is that good!
Ray Porter is an excellent narrator. One of my personal favorites. You know the character that is speaking immediately. This guy has great talent!
The whole book produces a series of strong reactions. The "Oh hell no!" moments to the times when Ledger says something so sarcastically funny you cannot help but laugh. It is a good read but start from Book 1!
No, once was enough
Yes, the plot was good and quick paced.
The Narration was top notch. Really good when you can easily tell one character from another and the accents were pretty good as well!
The story was good. The pace was good. What John Ringo's fascination with grown men screwing children was as usual the low part of the book for me. He can definitely write but I would have this guy on my neighborhood watch list for sure. How he thinks that adds to the books I have no idea. It's not enough that his character has issues with women of a more consenting age but he has to take it that one step further every time. If the base story and action were not so good I would have dumped this writer by now. In my opinion the writer seems like a scumbag that just so happens can write.
The story and premise are really pretty interesting. Perhaps just a bit more character development leading up to being "recruited/blackmailed" into military service would have added to the story.
I really felt that Liam Owen was just not suited to this book. After almost 300 audio books I have listened to a great many readers and Liam is simply not that great at voices.
Gehenna Dawn was worth the listen. I got past the narration issues I was having and just immersed myself in the story. Definitely want to see where this goes in the next book!
Definitely worth the listen. Without giving it away I will say that the price of deceiving the troops will become an expensive mistake.
Well written, however, every other page seems to be the two main characters fawning over eachother or having sex, which by the way was well written and descriptive. My problem with the book is that the underlying story is an interesting premise, but the thought that a creature over 2000 years old and a woman somewhere around thirty would be so physically enamored with eachother to the extent in this book is just about juvenile. If there were more balance I would overlook this one aspect of the book, but there is no balance in this book and the story becomes almost an afterthought. She is a best selling author though......amazing.
