This book was haunting. The depth of characters was rich.It was wonderfully read my numerous voices. I have been an audible customer for years and this was one of the best.
The narrators were the only redeeming aspect of the book. Otherwise it was a tedious story of a crazy alcoholic that is in a pity party.
The intrigue of who done it is lost to the pathetic protagonist.
Most of it.
I am not sure why this book is compared to Gone Girl. It is boring and mostly focuses on a pathetic figure that the reader has little sympathy for.
The reader was superb and added so much to the book. The book itself with its twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. It was really scary!
This book falls into a genre I do not normally read. Yet it was suspenseful, thoughtful inner voice part, added to a crime story.
Main character Brigid Quinn is the story. Her vulnerabilities, strong determination, and quirky aloofness adds much to the story.
Great voice and inflection.
The end had a lovely reunion of the two main characters giving a real flavor of human character.
I read all of Hern's previous work and they were strong stories with poetic beauty. This book is awful, no story line, and a poor female reader. If I had not purchased the book before it was reviewed I would not have bought it. Be warned this is not good.
The narration, story was one of the best I have ever listened to.
The creativity, and writing style of the author is exceptional. I was very sad to see it end.
I can not recommend this book enough.
This book is a pathetic story that leads to no comment except why.
There is no redeeming value to the books intent except to illustrate the mundane life of a woman.
An interesting book, with twists and turns. Kudos to the author to write such a complex plot where all of the story is through the mind of the main character. I recommend it as a good listen.
The use of writing through the main character's childish, sexual perverse mind was tedious and lead to no conclusion. I was amazed this book is getting any interest. I kept hoping it would improve.
How can anyone listen to this dribble about the worst aspects of life in America! Nothing is funny or redeeming about this book. I have no idea what is the hot interest in this downer.
Prose is excellent. The characters are rich. Unexpected ending and a good reader. I highly recommend this book.
