When it happens to Seattle ad executive Alan Christoffersen, he's tempted by his darkest thoughts. A bottle of pills in his hand and nothing left to live for, he plans to end his misery. Instead, he decides to take a walk. But not any ordinary walk. Taking with him only the barest of essentials, Al leaves behind all that he's known and heads for the farthest point on his map.

  • The Innocent: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By David Baldacci
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty, Orlagh Cassidy

Will Robie may have just made the first - and last - mistake of his career.... It begins with a hit gone wrong. Robie is dispatched to eliminate a target unusually close to home in Washington, D.C. But something about this mission doesn't seem right to Robie, and he does the unthinkable: He refuses to kill. Now, Robie becomes a target himself and must escape from his own people.

Fleeing the scene, Robie crosses paths with a wayward teenage girl, a 14-year-old runaway from a foster home. But she isn't an ordinary runaway....

    andrea says: "I Hope There's a Sequel!!"
"Fast paced and a great story!"
Would you consider the audio edition of The Innocent: A Novel to be better than the print version?

I'm an audio-focused person and enjoy the audio books more than the printed version. You get the reader's intonations that help the story be richer.

What did you like best about this story?

My interest hasn't changed, still solid in this type of subject.

What about Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s performance did you like?

The twisting and inter-weaving of the story line keeps you guessing and wondering how it comes together and where it is going. Fun.

  • Beyond the Hundredth Meridian: John Wesley Powell and the Second Opening of the West

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Wallace Stegner
    • Narrated By Mark Bramhall

Pulitzer Prize winner Wallace Stegner recounts the remarkable career of Major John Wesley Powell, the distinguished ethnologist and geologist who explored the Colorado River, the Grand Canyon, and the homeland of the Southwest Indian tribes. This classic work is a penetrating and insightful study of the Powell’s career, from the beginning of the Powell Survey, in which Powell and his men famously became the first to descend the Colorado River, to his eventual expulsion from the Geological Survey.

    Roy says: "History repeats itself."
"A Good Account of Powell's Life"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Good account of Powell's two exploratory trips down the Grand Canyon when almost nothing was known.

Would you recommend Beyond the Hundredth Meridian to your friends? Why or why not?

The book is too long winded and bogs down in Powell's political life, after his explorations.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Into the Depths of the Unknown

  • Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs)
    • By Laura Hillenbrand
    • Narrated By Edward Herrmann
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

Anastasia Burke says: "Hillenbrand could make even laundry fascinating!"
    "Unbroken is RIGHT!"

If you like stories of inspiration thru trial and perseverance, then Unbroken is for you. I grew up in the south bay area of LA in the 1960's-70's and never heard of Samporini and his great successes, trials, dis-pare and redemption. This is one of THE great WWII stories and brings home that perseverance of spirit and soul conquers all. Now, I'll never forget him or this story.
