This book is a little big different from the other books in the series, but in a good way. I liked investigative feel rather then the fight fight fight approach in the other books.
1) I love Ghost and really feel for him in every encounter
2) I pretty much skipped over the 2000 year old flashbacks. They didn't add much to the story in reality.
3) For some reason the audio quality was a little lower in this book compared to the others. Not sure why.
4) Liked getting more details on Mr. Church. The unfolding of his character has been very well done.
This Zombie story really is different from all the others I have read. The book has a feeling of optimism throughout as you see the country rebuilding.
Yes the book has an bad guy throughout but it felt really different. It wasn't some crazy person trying to take over the world for no reason with a bunch of dumb followers. This bad guy had a goal and I could sympathize with him.
I really enjoyed all of the characters. The performance was outstanding. Could not have been a better voice for the characters.
Wish the book was longer. I would love to read a follow-up book about the same "world".
A story about very screwed up people doing a lot of really screwed up things.
From cutting to statutory rape to drinking blood. A story about horrible people doing dumb and bad things. I never really found any point to the story.
Well read, that is about it.
I really didn't like the first 1/4 of the book. I thought it was slow and I couldn't figure out the plot. As the book went on it really got much better. Really enjoyed the characters and story. Well read.
I rated the 1st book as being ok and decided to try the 2nd book based on reviews, since I did like the concepts of this futuristic world. This 2nd book was horrible. I couldn't follow the story and had a hard time connecting to any characters. Almost no action compared to the 1st book.
I liked the other Joe Hill books, but I couldn't get through this one.
Between the really bad music between chapters and the ultra slow talking narration, I couldn't finish this book. Didn't like anything about the main character. I ended up listening at 2x speed just because the book was being read so slowly.
Really a great story. Holds up against any Stephen King story. A bad guy that is just as creepy and evil as Pennywise the Clown. Cops that are actually smart and do what you would expect from cops. Really liked all of the characters. Everything was original and well thought out. I think he could do a great prequel story as a 2nd chapter.
Great reading also. Lots of emotion. Brings the story to life (and death). One of the best readings since the Joe Ledger series. I expect this reading to win awards.
The story was pretty boring as far as Zombie books go and the toilet humor was non stop. Didn't smile once. The attempt at being a zombie comedy was relentless and just not well done. Won't be reading the rest of the series.
Thought the narrator didn't have a voice that matched an ex-marine.
Overall I liked all of the characters and the future world the author created, but the story fell short. At times I felt like the story was confusing due to the way it sometimes would make a very disjointed jump in the plot.
The Todd McLaren's reading fell short when it came to female characters. You could not tell when he was reading a male or female voice, which also caused some confusion.
I may read future books in the series, but they are not top on my list.
Really enjoyed this latest edition to the series. A little different from the prior books. A little less action, replaced by more suspense. More depth to some of the characters. Can't wait for the next book.
The reading for Ray really brings Joe Ledger and crew to life. Can't imagine any other voices doing these characters.
Would make a great movie series or even a good TV show if done right (Fringe quality).
Really hard to believe that a 15 year old can learn more about a disease then any of the actual doctors and scientists researching this thing for 11 years. Give me a freaking break. No real medical or scientific training or experience does not qualify you to be a reasonable researcher. The entire concept was ridiculous.
Predictable and unbelievable even as science fiction.
