I had no idea what to expect from this book. I had heard good things about it but as it was written with a younger audience in mind I was not sure what I was getting.
How very pleased I was to discover a wonderfully written and narrated book.
The author has created wonderful rich characters that are all quite different from other books.
The setting of the "Overland" & "Underland" are very interesting and descriptions of the land, it's creatures and characters are very interesting.
Paul Boehmer is a wonderful narrator, his reading style is very well paced and he makes the characters come alive using wonderful voices and accents for all of them making it easy to follow who is speaking and what is going on.
I loved the relationship between Gregor and his little sister, I was quite sad for them hearing their back story, but the way he looks after Boots is just so wonderful and heartwarming.
Little Boots is such a wonderful character, she is so very well written and my favourite character in the whole book, she is the cause of most of my laughter throughout.
It was lucky I was alone while listening to most of it as I was laughing out loud in more than 1 place, this was due to both the writing and the narrating, some of the characters are just so loveable and others just so interesting.
I now look forward to listening to the 2nd book with impatience.
I am not going to compare this book to any others I have read as it does not deserve that.
I enjoyed this book from the first to the last word.
The story itself is very compelling, the main character tells her story with detail but not too much that you get bored with too much detail.
The writing is very good in that it makes me think of childhood memories and how I feel when I visit or see something from back then and it is all so accurate in the way Eva feels and behaves through her grief and return to Trellowath House.
I feel compassion for her and like her as a character very much.
When she starts to have her "episodes" I thought it so funny that she thought she was going mad and then as the story evolves and the new people enter her life you get to know them and feel her care and love for them as she does.
I felt very drawn into the whole book and when the resolution starts to come about near the end it was actually a very nice surprise to see how it all came together and extremely clever too.
I was actually quite emotional right at the end as it finished and although I am an avid reader not all books can get to me in such an emotional way.
The Narrator did a wonderful job of all aspects, the different voices, the descriptions and the emotion of the story.
I think she has a large part to play in why I loved this story so much.
I am looking forward to reading more of Susanna Kearsleys books and to seeing what else is narrated by Nicola Barber.
I really enjoyed everything about it, the storyline, the characters which were sometimes difficult but quite human and the narrator is one of my favourite, her voices are always well done and easy to follow.
I loved the descriptions of the Scottish men, their physical size and their humor.
It flowed well, there was some nice romance but there was also a great story behind it and the time of setting was well presented.
Yes, they are always wonderful
When the King spoke with Jamie
I love Mac, he is just so open to the experience and so patient and loving to the sisters.
I love her voices and the cadence of her reading. She pulls me into the story so well, her style agrees with my ears.
I wish I had time but I don't find it a problem that I cannot do that
This was a great series, I always enjoy Nora Roberts and Sandra Burr does a wonderful job narrating it which makes it even better..
I am a huge fan of these books and this one did not let me down.
One of my main loves is the Narrator Susan Ericksen. She is the narrator of all of the ones I have listened to so far and some of the Nora Robers too and I just love the way she does it.
I love her voices, the rhythm of her voice and the way she tells the story.
As for the story itself I have listened to a few and read a few of the In Death series now and they are right up my alley.
A great murder mystery set not too far into the future but quite a different future than I envision we will have. Lead detective Eve Dallas is a great character she grows and changes with each installment while her husband Rourke sounds good enough to eat!!!
All the other characters are well likeable and fun too and they bounce around together in these stories so well.
They may not be everyone's cup of tea but I love them.
