Amidst the decaying splendor and poisonous intrigue of Chalion's ancient capital, Cazaril is forced to confront not only powerful enemies but also the malignant curse that clings to the royal household, trapping him, flesh and soul, in a maze of demonic paradox, damnation, and death for as long as he dares walk the five-fold pathway of the gods.

Certainly well worth listening to. It is a bit predictable, kind of a feel good type story. Character development is very good, and the characters ARE interesting. I am sad the 2nd book isnt available on Audible, I had to order from Amazon to read!!

In a time long forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons off balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. As the cold returns, sinister forces are massing beyond the protective wall of the kingdom of Winterfell. To the south, the king's powers are failing, with his most trusted advisor mysteriously dead and enemies emerging from the throne's shadow.

"A great beginning to an epic in the making"

While I had already read this book 2x in the past, the listening was far better still. George R R Martin is the best of this genre, especially for those who prefer a grittier, slightly more real portrayal of people.

Is there magic? Yes there is...but it is no more fantastic than the rich
    storyline and detailed character development.
