"This one has it all..."
5 star performance from Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross. They not only made me hear the story but also FEEL every minute of it. Truly incredible performance.
Karen Marie Moning is one of my favorite authors. In my opinion, she is the MOST TALENTED writer. No one can bring characters to life like can. Her action packed stories move at a frantic pace with the character so real, so alive, that it leaves the reader feeling every moment of the story physically.
This novel borders on a YA novel but only because the heroine is very young. The story itself is full of action and adult themes. It is the perfect blend of the adult world as experienced by a young adult and the adolescent angst as seen by adults.
Do I need to say it? I HIGHLY recommend this one.
"I have to move this series up to favorite status"
There is something so compelling about Richelle Mead's writing. There is depth in her characters, humor in her dialog, and surprises around the corners.
I can't wait to read the next one.
"The novelty has worn off"
I'm sorry Jason, but this just wasn't your cup of tea. The pace is too slow and sometimes the voices overlap making the listerner wonder who's talking.
The novelty of the steamy sex scenes quickly wore off since they are incredibly similar to the ones in book 1. Anyone else know two different men that make love exactly the same way? Not very believable.
The story itself is slightly more believable than book 1. But this is not enough to overcome the other shortcomings.
On to book 3 with fingers crossed it gets better...
"Excellent narration of a super steamy romance"
Zoe Winslow is good. REALLY GOOD. She was spot on with the pace, rythm, voices, ...everything. This story could/would have rated lower without her interpretation.
The novel is basically a super steamy romance, with its descriptive language bordering on porn. If someone picked up it's movie rights even men would enjoy this one. hahaha
I, personally, did not find the plot very believable. But I'm a sucker for a love story so I'm rating it right up there.
"Just draws me in and I never want to leave"
I don't know what it is about this series that has me so hooked. It is such a strange and eerie world. But something about the characters just hooks me right in. A fantastic tale of survival filled with human fallacy, strength and weakness.
Pete Bradbury is great with the narration. He keeps the story to a perfect pace.
"A love story on the scale of Romeo and Juliet"
I have been putting off writing this review because I've been too busy listening, reading, and listening again to the story. Please know that I never do that. I don't usually eat left overs, do not watch movies more than once and hardly ever re-read a book. I am on my 3rd, back-to-back reading/listening to this one.
I've read most of the other reviews here and I don't think I can add much to what has already been said, neither can I say it any more eloquently than others have already done.
I am only going to add that this is an incredible love story. I am neither pro nor against homosexuality. I don't normally like it thrown in my face since I don't throw my sexuality into other people's faces. This love story is between two homosexual males but I think that no one, sentimental enough to read love stories, will find any fault in this one. The opposite is true. The subject is treated with such respect and understanding that it may open some of our eyes.
OK...on to the good part (thought you were already there?)
The Warden writes action packed novels. I love action books, action movies, etc. This one is PACKED with action. Both in the physical form and in the psychological. Breathless...this book leaves me breathless ... even after 3 readings.
I don't think there are enough stars above to show how much I love this book. So here are a few more: *************************************************************************************!!!
"Good story, bad narration"
Ms. Ashley created a unique take on the paranormal genre. The "shifters" were created by faery. They freed themselves from the fae only to end up corralled into shabby towns and treated as second rate citizens by humans. I am enjoying this series even though it is not in my top 5.
Unfortunately, I think I would be enjoying it more if I was reading it. It's hard for me to say this, but the narration is truly awful. The reading is staccato. There is no rhythm. Sentences are stressed in the wrong place so that the listener has to stop and think about what the words mean instead of relying on the narrator to embue them with the correct feeling. She "loses" the "voices" so that the listener gets a bit of a shock thinking "...wait, wasn't the heroine talking? ...oh, she still is, only she sounds like the hero now..." All in all, its a difficult listen entirely due to the poor narration.
"This one is "ok""
I was soooo looking forward to Daniel Suarez's next book. Maybe that's why I felt a little let down with this one. You know how it goes, the higher your expectations...
It's not a bad story and I did eventually enjoy it (after about the halfway mark). I started it. Stopped listening because I got a little bored. Then turned it back on a week or two later when I needed a fill in between books. I'm glad I did, because it ultimately turned out to be a decent story, well narrated. No complaints at all about Jeff Gurner. Great job.
"This is a good one"
The characters are well developed and the story flows seamlessly. A good story makes the reader feel a part of that world, regardless of how fatastical that worldd may be. This book does it well. AND...I think the series is going to get better. Which, of course, is another mark of the good book, leaving the reader wanting more.
"I liked it - I didn't love it"
It was good. It's just that I found the characters a bit quirky. Not quirky in a good way, quirky in the unbelievable kind of way. The storyline is good in principle but not executed well. It read choppy. But not because of the performance. The perfomance was good. The story was a bit lacking.
"I enjoyed it"
I say "I enjoyed it" with a bit of surprise. Modern romance is not a genre I normally choose. It was an Audible gift - Thank You Audible! I really enjoyed the storyline. The characters could have been a bit more developed. But the narrator did a great job. Refreshing change of scenery for me. :-)
