I agree with Wyonia, the series is probably for young adults. It is not at the same level as the previous Valdemar books by this author. I will probably listen to the rest in the series as they are published just because they do fill in some of the early history of the Collegium and Valdemar and I like the Companions
Since I did finish the book and marginally enjoyed the story, it is probably not fair to return it, I got this from the first 2 of a series sale. Glad I didn't buy the second or I would be returning it. even as a cat lover, this was just a little too cute. The drama wasn't and the narrator's voice just a little annoying.
The statement about child prostitution is not accurate. Nor is Kaylin bait for any sting". Children are being killed for for unknown reasons and magic is involved.
Of all the many books I have listened too over the years (I started listening when they were just on tape), Cynthia, for this book, has the worst voice I have ever endured. She sounds like she is trying to portray a hard military female (very cliped, flat and emotionless). She has no noticeable voice change between characters. I agree with the one reviewer who said the series is now ruined for her. I need to start checking the reviews before I buy. I would try to return the book it it was allowed. Wonder if she was approved by the author?
