We have owned this version of Huck Finn by Dick Hill on CD for years, but it is such a long time family favourite that I repurchased on Audible so we could enjoy it without the frantic scramble to find the next disc (usually in a kids CD player).
Dick Hill gives Huck and Jim such a great reading and gets the humour just right. My kids quote this reading all the time. ("I was mighty satisfied")

This is a great reading of a great classic. It will get listened to and enjoyed many more times.

Wow, this is a true gem. The story is vivid and compelling and translates into spoken word marvelously. Even more amazing (for some reason) the author has a real day job, he is a physician??

As for listening, having the author narrate can be a risky proposition, but Khaled has a wonderful voice and brings a feeling and flavour to his work that adds another dimension to an already great tale.

This was a fun ?Full Cast? book I found by accident and after listening to a sample wanted to hear more. The voicing is good, the plot melodramatically funny (in a Gilbert and Sullivan style) and the audio quality is excellent.
Listen to the sample, don?t fear the singing (only a few snippets here and there, this is not a musical), and enjoy it with your kids, or without.

It is great to see Audible upping the bit rate on the older John Le Carre books. So have no fear the original warning about audio quality is no longer valid, thanks Audible.
(Oh and Frederick Davidson does a great job with the reading)

My family and I just finished listening to Huck Finn read by Dick Hill (Brilliance Audio). Based upon our enjoyment of that amazing rendition we went looking for Tom Sawyer. Being an Audible subscriber I looked here first, disappointed to find no Dick Hill version but willing to take a chance based upon positive reviews here of Patrick Fraley's version, we chose to purchase Tom Sawyer from Audible read by the much lauded Patrick Fraley.
I am at a loss to explain the good reviews. Patrick Fraley probably does a great rendition of Jonathan Winters imitating a simpering woman, but his characterizations of the players in Tom Sawyer are nothing short of painful.
After an arduous 2 hours of listening the entire family (7 year old on up) voted to not finish this version. So we wrote off this purchase as a bad investment and purchased the Brilliance Audio version narrated by Dick Hill, because he is that good, and Patrick Fraley is (in this instance) that bad.
Save your money and listen to the sample before you buy.
