Seth has a gift. He is a wonder narrator and brings an engaging, interesting, thought provoking audio book for the world to read. This book, although only four ish hours long, (I didn't want it to end).. is very informative and perfectly balanced, easy to listen too, and brings to light how The Thinking Atheist came to be. Religious people take heed: The internet is the new god. Your beliefs are eventually too fade, and science will, eventually, take over as the truth that it is. Seth Andrews is going to help change the world.
I wasn't really sure why I actually bought this book in the beginning. Maybe it was on my suggested list? I really got into it quickly , and I realized that I could of written this book! This author and I have a very similar view and life experience. It is a good refresher for some folks, and an eye opener for a lot of folks I imagine. Good stuff. Brings up a lot of good points on how to be prepared, not in a crazy "prepper " way, but an average, everyday American doing little things to be ready when the eventual SHTF happens.
The scary thing about this book is that it was written in 2007. It is now 2014, and what is taking up almost every minute of every news channel in the US, on a daily bases......... It's happening., and America needs to wake up NOW.
This is a great book simply explaining evolution. It has a lot less "Religion Bashing" than I thought it would. Very little of that in fact. The good thing about that is that this would be a good listen (Gift) for the indoctrinated religious person who may have some hope of jumping on the evolution train. Come on it's a great ride! Dr. Coyne goes into GREAT detail for countless animal species which I found fascinating. Fascinating read highly recommended, especially for FOX News watchers. One nit-pick.... there are several illustrations that are referenced that the audio book reader cannot access. I wish Audible had them available for download too like on some other books.
Loved this book. Listened to it in two days, couldn't put it down. It allows one to look at religion and the infected religious folks out there in a new way. Highly recommended.
I have listened to many audio books in the past several years, approaching 100 or so, and I must say, this one is close to the top of my favorites. Rebecca Musser is an AMAZING narrator. I am not sure what she is doing nowadays but she could earn a living at Audible.com. Her voice is so articulate and smooth and full of measured emotion. The story of the FLDS itself for me was not a complete surprise, as I have studied religion for over 20 years. (Also been an atheist for over 40.) I spent some time in southern Utah many many years ago and got a taste of what went on there via a super-secret girlfriend. The "leaders" of these people are very demented, in fact, the FLDS is similar to the fundamentalist Muslims in the way they brainwash their young and completely control their women. It is very sad indeed. It is amazing to me how these sects can continue to exist in this country. I can only hope that more of these young girls can escape this hell on Earth they live in. Rebecca Musser is no doubt a hero. Her bravery and tenacity are examples for others to follow. . A champion of the oppressed indeed. I would love to meet her one day just to shake her hand.
Fantastic! Rachel Maddow is a wonderful narrator, (I never watched her show but am going to start now). An insiders look at recent military history, coverups, insider politics, military blunders, private contractors, and the US nuclear weapon arsonal. Literally listened to it in one day. Couldn't "put it down". Thanks for a great , eye opening book Rachel.
I suppose perhaps this kind of thing helps some people go to sleep, perhaps the same kind of people that can be "hypnotized" on stage at the state fair too. A MUCH better book to put you to sleep is "Atlas Shrugged"., that's what I'm using now, plus it's 60 hours long.
This was my first book I download with my new "Audible.com" account. I watch Penn on Youtube all the time, and I figured I could do the right thing and buy his book finally. I was SOOOOO excited that it was done in Penn's voice. That made this such a great experiance. I greatly enjoyed this book. It actually isn't all about religion, but it is filled with fantastic stories from Penn's life, told from his perspective religously, politically, morally, ect... Being in his voice was a sure plus.. I am forever a fan and an atheist for life. In fact, I just told my wife our next trip is going to be at the Rio to see his show. I can't wait! Thanks Penn!
