This book was good, really good. There was a small amount of made up drama so I couldn't go 5 stars but I know this is one I will listen to again! The hot scenes were hot, and not all involved the main characters, the hotness was all over the place!
Apparently life in a motorcycle gang is really different than the real world, they glorify that they are the 1% of the population that doesn't follow rules of normal society, and that's how they like it! There are woman who hang around the club literally to be for any mans enjoyment, so if you aren't okay with that kind of thing this isn't the book for you.
As for me the males in this book are all alphas, which was yummy, and the female lead is strong and not a simpering wimp who can't make a decision, I really liked her. The whole story was good. This was my first biker book so no idea if this plot was original but it totally worked for me! It had me from the first page and never let go. Highly recommend it!
This book marked a lot of my boxes....Mob Underworld, Alpha Males, Blood Feud, woman in distress...hot scenes, nice chemistry.
Gabrielle has tried to be a legit businessman, despite having been born to the head of the Italian Mob in New York. When an old friend, a major figure in the Russian Mob asks him to protect his daughter while he avenges her mothers murderers he agrees....and the fund begins!
Eva is trying to live a quiet life, morning the passing of her mother, when she is captivated by the most handsome man she has ever scene. Stepping foot into his world will change hers forever.
Narrator was not great, he did Gabrielles' voice very well and a few other men but then he made some of the men sound like they were stereotypical gay and many of the women too...overall NOT appealing to listen to. Suggest getting a woman.
Due to the under 3 hour time constraint of the book I get why it had to be an "insta-love" story, but I do wish they went into Ivan's past some more.
I'm on the fence on whether or not to get the second book, which is full length, because when I think of a Russian Protector and the Russian Mob I don't think of someone like Ivan...he owns a fighting gym and is 100% legit, got out of any illegal crap years ago and well I was just really hoping for a more traditional I'm in the Mob and your my woman type of story.
The story in itself wasn't a bad one...sister is dating fighter...can't find sister....go to where fighter works out and get the help of the owner in tracking them both down...insta-love happens....but then we really get into it that the sister is a junky, the fighter failed a drug test and got tossed out and the seedy underworld was well, pretty seedy...throw in a street gang and it got really far away from the book I was hoping to read about the russian mob. *shrug*
Narrator was decent...like I said I might try the second book...but just not sure yet.
Overall the story furthered the plot and I will get the next book that comes out BUT this book had me a bit aggravated with the implausibility of it and the constant internal dialogue of "He/She doesn't want me, how could He/She"..which both the leading man and woman each had what felt like 50+ times!
Vincent is the the second in command of the Italian Mafia, as well as a business man, but usually his business involves being an executioner and enforcer for the Italian Mob.
Nicca is the sister of Caleb who is high up in a MC gang who usually play on the wrong side of the law, so she has a certain moral flexibility when it comes to violence and enforcement. Sadly, Nicca was blackmailed into a sham of a marriage by a violent sociopath who recorded her brother killing someone...she gets beaten regularly but can't leave until she finds that recording...but when Vincent accidentally sees her back full of bruises her careful plans of protecting her brother go out the window because Vincent will NOT allow a woman to be abused in any way.
The idea of an abuse victim, and I mean really bad violent abuse, finding comfort in the arms of a man who performs violence for a living just seemed totally implausible to me. I still listened to the whole thing but it didn't sit well with me as far as being plausible. Nice to visit that world again though and looking forward to Max's book next.
Narrator was better this time, didn't try to assign stereotypical gay voices to the male leads but the women still sound horrible!
This is the story of Mercy and Riley....Mercy the Leopard and Riley the Wolf...I guess it was kind of like an interracial love story...um...with a cat and a dog? I think the story spent too much time in listing all the ways Mercy said she would never be with a wolf, and not enough on Riley. We heard a lot about Mercy and her past and her family, but I guess the author thought we had heard enough about Riley in book 1...but that was 6 books ago so a little bit of a refresher would have been nice.
All in all I kind of missed the Alpha's involvement in this, I would have taken Hawk or Lucas...just missing something...maybe it was lack of psy? Not sure, but it sounds like the next book is a doozey, so I think I'll take a bit of a breather from the psy gang.
If these ever go on sale you should get them all...they really are a fascinating world!
Still loving this world...this was Dorian's story. Dorian was damaged when his sister was kidnapped in book 1 and killed by the psychopathic council member Enrique, and he has never recovered. He has tried to put on a brave face but his soul is hurt, he hates the Psy and all the represent, if it weren't for them covering up a serial killer within their midst his sister might still be alive.
The first time she saw the dangerous sniper Dr. Ashaya Aleine knew he almost pulled the trigger, so why hasn't she been able to stop thinking of that man..cat...being. She is one of the most important M-Psy known to the Psy race and has pretended to embrace silence for years...and yet this man might have the ability to undo it all.
Overall it was still nice being in this world, however, after being in this world for a while I find it a bit implausible that Ashaya could have hidden her flaws for all these years, even with the net mind. So, while it was nice to read, I found it to be inconsistent with previous plots.
I read the first 3 psy changling books a couple of years ago and I got distracted...I decided to download book 4 for a nice change of pace and SOOO glad I did! I forgot how cool this world was!!!
Clay, the hard ass leopard sentinel has always been a loaner....the pack knows that, heck even the readers know that, but we didn't know why until now.
Tallon, the human never should have befriended the little boy named Clay, but he was hurt and she wanted to help...and that one act cemented their souls forever.
It's been 20 years since Clay was told his best friend, his only friend, Tallon died....so how is she standing in front of him asking for help?
Great book, already downloaded book 5, I have missed this world, if you haven't listened to these books you just don't know what you are missing.
Great for sale, credit or *gulp* BUY....yup....it's good!
This was a decent sex story with a side of plot. A bit disappointed when the plot kind of fizzled, but it kept me interested for more than 10 hours so I got my money's worth. I also liked the twist that it wasn't 2 guys that came together because they wanted the same girl, it was two guys that belonged together but couldn't find a balance until they added the girl...so that made it interesting...but it wasn't great.
I say worth it for a sale and a credit but don't just buy it outright.
This is the book that you should really read prior to the Half Moon Hollow series because it fills in a lot of holes, like who Jaime is.
Love the plot of this one, poor Jane is thrust into circumstances beyond her control again and we get to see a lot more of Ophelia in this book and get to see the mayhem caused by Jane trying to get married. Love that Iris is in this book, so much fun to read!
For those of you giving bad reviews I just don't get it! This is a very typical Molly Harper Book, you aren't reading it because it's the next literary classic you read it because it's fun, witty, and to catch up with the people from this wonderful world where Vampires came out of the closet, so to speak, in 1999 because of an accountant suing his employer to get night hours because he fell under the American's with Disability Act because he bursts into flames in sunlight! Does this sound like War and Peace people? Get over it and enjoy the pallet cleanser that is the Half Moon Hollow bunch with their shark-headed folks, witches, and Vampires that are just trying to live "normal" lives. Enjoy the antics and the mishaps!
First and foremost, SPOILER ALERT FOR OTHER BOOKS!
PLEASE AUDIBLE put the Molly Harper series in one freaking list chronologically! I read this book right after the one about the witches handbook, that is how audible said to read them...so why am I listening to this book and hearing how things worked out in the Jane series? I am not a happy camper when I followed the correct reading order and I get spoilers for other books...it just makes me all grrrrrrrr!
Nice little book, glad it was free back in the day and that I was finally able to listen to it. LOve the Hollow, Molly Harper's humor and of course Amanda Ronconi brings it all home with her quirky way of bringing the characters to life....just wish it was longer, but hey what did I want for free...would not recommend a buy for $10 or use of a credit, it was just too short!
