Had I known this was a series I might have waited, but I wanted others to know. The next book will focus on two other people, one of which was mentioned in this book, so this is a mostly complete story...so that's good at least!
I have mixed feelings about this book, for about 20% of it I felt ticked at the blatant rip off of 50. I hate it when people say that about a book, oh so and so ripped off this other book, and usually it had a similar tone but not a blatant whole scene rip off. See if these sound familiar to you "he put my coat on and his fingers brushed my shoulders as I felt and electric jolt"...."I already transferred the funds to your account. How do you know my account number?", "I'm not the man for you Anastasia"... Whoops sorry meant "francheska"! That's a totally different name! "I usually require that be shaved but I like yours"....and of course the "your 23 how is this possible, why didn't you tell me?" Hopefully all of that was vague enough to not be considered spoilers, but you get my point.
For the other 80% it was wonderful! Totally different story line, good characters, no one is truly broken just a bit damaged, which was nice. The hot scenes were amazing and not like 50, they were better in my opinion! New toys, new fun, different attitudes, very nice book....for that 80%. Would have gotten 5 stars if not for that other 20%!
Narration was okay...Ian's voice was kind of weird but inflections were good and so was the pace. If you can get past the blatant 50 rip off parts it's really good.
Darned if you do, darned if you don't....I don't think R.K could have won with me on this one.
We still had the amazingly graphic steam scenes....and then some more of them...and more of them....*yawn* can we get back to the plot now? Yes, you love him he loves you everyone can't believe how great this is....blah...blah. What we fought to get to in books one and two seems obsurdly easy in book 3, and the freak outs and hold backs of books 1 and 2...yeah they are gone too.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a third edge of your seat instalment in the up in the air series...well you won't find it because the third book was sickly sweet! If you have followed the series of course you will want to know how it ends...just don't expect the same intensity as books 1 and 2 because EVERYTHING gets resolved, and EVERYONE finally believes in their love and well....even the dramatic parts took about 3 minutes to resolve and half of that drama was contrived, plus you get a prologue for one year later and then 5 years later...yup EVERYTHING gets resolved and tied up, no guessing here.
Narrator still rocked, very good voices!
This was a very nice story, it didn't have a lot of action, and not much heat, but the characters were funny and there wasn't a lot of contrived drama.
Calvin Morrisey has a history of loving them and leaving them. He's 35, he never plans on marrying and kids are NOT his thing, but he is a MAN!
Minerva (Min) Dobbs is a 33 year old actuary, she runs statistics and can tell you that 20 billion hot dogs are consumed by American's every year...but she can't tell you why no man has ever really "done it" for her.
Meeting at a bar one night started a chain of events that neither Calvin or Min could escape...have you ever tried NOT to run into another person but the universe conspired against you and all you kept doing was running into that ONE person?
Comedy ensued, listening to them try to stay apart was actually hysterical, and overall it was just a really nice book. I could have done with less harping about carbs and butter from Min's mother, but it was part of who she was....personally I wouldn't speak to my mother anymore if that's all I heard...but it is what it is.
If you are looking for a steamy romance with graphic nudity then this isn't the book for you, but if you are looking for an adult book, not even close to YA fiction, with REAL adults not twenty somethings pretending to be adults...then I highly recommend this book. It was fun and easy and kept you guessing...and there was even a nice re-cap on the end on how everyone's happily ever after really went.
Narrator was decent on male and female voices.
We continue the story of the residents of Caldwell NY with this latest installment of The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The beauty of these books is the world that we get to fall into, and dealing with the struggles of life that are familiar to us all. The approval, or lack thereof, of our lifestyles. From whom we choose to marry, or not, to the ramifications of our life choices and how those choices affect others. J.R Ward brings these struggles to the forefront in this epic novel.
We reconnected with all our favorites from Iam and Tres, to the chosen, the band of bastards, we even got more insight into Asail and Saxton. This story focuses on Beth and Wrath, and his Kingship. There are struggles and triumphs and all done without a nasty cliff hanger.
Wonderful series, wonderful world, cannot recommend enough! 22 hours of total emmersion into a far away place and an alternate reality. Well done!
If you have been following my reviews you know I have had luke warm feelings about this series. Book one was okay, book 2 not so great, book 3 was awesome, and this being book four is landing in the better than okay but not awesome category.
This is the story of Wick and JJ. JJ is Tanya's little sister and she has been in jail for 5 years. I think the author could have played with this relationship a bit more, had some more touching scenes rather than hey I know we haven't even kissed yet but since we are energy fused and all let's just jump into bed.
I like the back story, the world emerging is pretty cool, and I'm interested to see where all this is heading. It's still not Black Dagger Brotherhood worthy, but It's getting up there with Midnight Breed worthy.
Narrator still needs work..I'm dreading Venom's story because his voice is SOOO immature and teenager like, but Wick's voice was a bit better this go around.
This book was GREAT! Book 1 was good, book 2 had me questioning myself as to why oh why I was still listening to this suspend reality and don't think too much series, but this one hit it out of the park for me...except for the narrator.
This is the story of Mac...he's 34 and just found out he is a dragonborn...and a rare water dragon at that! He has always loved the water, even was a navy seal, but nothing could have prepared him for 4 grown male dragons appearing at his door when he was so weak he was near collapse. They walked him through his change in book 2, and in book 3 he thrived! He did awesome tricks in the water and all while trying to figure out this mysterious pull he has for Tanya Solaris...whom we met in book 1, best friend of Mist.
The heat was hot, the action was great, it left me wanting more! I downloaded book 4 during my commute because I needed it RIGHT NOW! Don't get me wrong, I'm still not completely thrilled with the series. A series based on a pack of dragons is very cool...but a series based on a supposedly totally rare thing, a dragon and a woman finding a very rare thing called energy fuse...so rare it has been lost in the dragon kind knowledge.....did I mention rare?...uh huh...then how come 3 dragons have found it in less than 2 months? See, and that still annoys me, don't tell me something is rare and mystical and then give me boat loads of it...kind of ticks me off. So, I have decided to think of this type of union as NOT rare...and just dragons finding their mates.
Speaking of ticking me off....the voices of the male characters....UGH! The narrator IS a male, why is it so freaking hard to do a male voice that doesn't sound like a scared teenage computer geek? These are DRAGON men...make them sound like it!!!!!
This is the story of Frosty, a.k.a the ice dragon and his "she-cop" Angela. I wanted to listen to this story to see how it would unfold, and it did unfold a bit differently than I thought so that was good. What I didn't like were the inconsistencies and the gaps in story. For example, there is a phone call towards the end of the book and someone is suppose to stay where they are, but when the person shows up they are no longer there....why? Or how Angela was "hurt" but we aren't REALLY sure how she was "hurt"...also not a lot of smexing in this book. Normally I don't mind if an action packed book goes light on the smex...if there is a plot to carry it, this one really didn't.
I want to hear Mac's story in book 3 but I think I'll give up on this series at that point. They are nice filler books while waiting for the books I REALLY want to listen to, but in my opinion this series is WAY weaker than Black Dagger Brotherhood, and The Midnight Breed Series...kind of on par with the Lords of the Underworld series...cool world, not a total waste of time, but nothing gripping.
Oh, and the narrator being a MAN I would expect his male voices to be better. His inflection is good, whispers are whispers and he's okay with all that but this big and tough warrior/fighter sounds like he might be 19 and a virgin...not so good for the swoon moments, which may be why I couldn't connect as well as I would have liked.
This book catches a hold of you quick and doesn't let go. Mist Monroe is a house call nurse practitioner who needs to visit an 8 month pregnant woman. When she gets there all heck breaks loose and she is forced to call 9-1-1. Bastion, leader of the night fury dragons knows what the problem is and rushes to get there before the rogue clan of dragons known as the razorbacks gets to these human women. The instant Bastion sees Mist it is game over, he needs her, and she's high energy of course! There is some contrived drama but it wasn't too bad.
Overall I'd have to say this book was good, solid 4 star good, but not great. Is it a shifter book....yes and no. They are dragons....who shift to appear human. Is it a vampire book....yes and no. There is no blood sucking, but they do suck energy from females, and there are high energy to low energy females out there. They call it being hungry when they need energy, oh and generally it's taken by sucking on the neck....but they don't call it being a vampire, oh and they cant go out in daylight...but still not a vampire.
The book had an interesting world, albeit the world doesn't make sense sometimes. For example....if they can see the energy of women why not sit at the mall or a train station and wait for one to walk by? There are a few of those suspend reality moments. But overall I liked the world and am continuing onto book 2.
Ugh! Waste of time! Book one was beyond frustrating I loved and hated it. Book 2 I was on the fence, things were getting weird, but I still felt compelled to get book 3, and now I have and I can say I'm done, even if they are not. The whole plot has shifted from a billionaire not being able to have the girl to every billionaire has a girl but no one talks to their girl and contrived drama ensues! I read the reviews on amazon for book 4 and needless to say the words predictable drama and far fetched were used often, nope I'm putting this series down, never to be listened to again.
This story takes place 2 years after book 2...but everyone is pretty much doing the same thing. Ari has her masters and is teaching and Rafe wants her back. That part was cute, then we have Shane and Leaha's story, and we have the return of prince Adrian in Rachaels bed.
Some parts were good, some parts were too horrible to describe and one part about an hour from the end I skipped all together because I was certain if I listened to what I knew was coming I would just shut the book off.
Overall skip this series, the frustration and downward spiral from decent plot and characters to pathetic contrived drama just isn't worth the money.
I was happy that they finally got the narrator and editor correct.
In my heart of hearts I want to say I threw this book down in disgust that the leading man Rafe would treat Ari like that...but it was like watching a train wreck, I couldn't look away.
This book has flaws...people seem to do things out of character to continue the plot (which I truly dislike!), people are upset when I can't understand why, and fine when I am screaming at my iphone that I can't believe that just happened! Time lines are messed up, one minute they are taking a vacation after 1 month...then she gets home from a 4 day trip and her 3 months are up...I was confused. I did like the secondary action of the side characters coming into their own stories. All I can say is YAY Ari for the end of the book....and boo rafe! But then I had to get book 3 to see where the heck all this was going!
Overall I just don't know about this book...I think the third will make or break my love of the series. The narrator changed....but I can't say it's for the better! The guys no longer sound like trolls...they now all sound the same and all sound like the girls, barely any distinction. Follow that up with the worst editing hack job of an audiobook I have EVER heard and you have a miserable listen. The chick was speed reading and if you tried to slow it down it echoed...and I'm originally from NJ fast talking doesn't bother me, but fast talking a love scene was just creepy! Then there seemed to be no breaks between paragraphs, or sentences and the whole timing was just so incredibly off. I will have to say though I already started book 3 and I am happy to report that they FINALLY got the narration and editing correct.
I'll keep you posted!
I really dislike books like this....I was SOOO in love with it during one minute and the next I was screaming at my poor iPhone! Rafe....oh Rafe...I adore you, I hate you, you are slime, you are an alpha sex God...and the ending....gesh, talk about a cliffhanger, thankfully Audible had the second book which I may have purchased and downloading while driving....oh come on....you would too if you had been left hanging like that!
Rafe Palozio is an accomplished billionaire, the prologue talks about 3 years ago when he thought he was married to the perfect woman...until he found her screwing his best friend. He decided from then on that NO woman would have his heart, romance was for fools, and any contact with a woman must be under contract and under HIS rules.
Arianna is a 23 year old who one night made the mistake of trying to be sociable and do what other people her age did...which in her case included going to a party and getting drunk. She usually just spent time with her nose in a book (no, she's NOT a virgin) or in class so this was suppose to be a nice distraction and loosen her up...but she freaked a bit and called her mom to get her and her mom was in a horrible crash. Fast forward 6 months later, she had to drop out of college one semester shy of her degree, sell her mom's house, sell her mom's business and all because her mom has been in a coma for 6 months! She needs to find a job to keep her mother in the care center, but isn't qualified for much. Arianna was discouraged that out of the hundreds of jobs she had applied for she only got 4 call backs...the last one was weird...they wanted to know her clothing size, take her picture, made her take an endurance stress test...what the heck is this job....all it said was must be available 24/7 and have zero other commitments, salary 100K a year.
This story was about a strong woman and a hurt man....can she open him to the concept of love or will he destroy her in his commitment to keep their relationship unemotional...no matter what he is feeling. Can he let her in, or will his pain keep her out?
They changed the narrator for book 2...but it isn't much better. This narrator had her timing down, you could tell who was speaking and when but the guys sounded like scratchy pre-pubescent trolls, with bad intonation...if someone says they are speaking angrily don't make it sound like they are laughing it really screws with a person's head!
All in all, glad I bought the book, and as I said I already downloaded book 2...BAD cliffhanger....worst one I have ever read I think! I swear if Rafe doesn't shape up in this second book I'm going to give up on this series...there is a lot of whining that "she is mine, it's just a matter of time....but this isn't my heart talking it's just my libido...I don't care for her, I just like it when she's happy...but that doesn't MEAN anything...etc"...but I really liked the story so I forgave it.
