The righteous Fae of the Seelie Court cherish an ancient quarrel with their Dark counterparts: a curse born of anger and deceit. The Unseelie Court will perish unless one of its princes can win a woman's love - honestly, without coercion. And love her wholly in return.

Let me say first, I didn't finish it...so you may want to stop reading now, but I just couldn't! I was 2 hours into it...and realized I knew nothing! I couldn't figure out which person was which sin, and there was a lot of talk about steamy things...and more talk, and MORE talk, and nothing ever happened! The main female role was a twit...oh dear I have never felt this way...oh now I feel this way...it's wrong to feel that way...I have never felt that way...huh? I have never in my life felt like screaming at a narrator to just SHUT UP! I had to end it.

I didn't like book 1...but with sooo many highlander books out there when audible had a sale I was like yeah, okay, sure.....then I look in my library and I was like oh CRUD! The good news is, it was better than book 1....the bad news is that really isn't saying much!

So, in book 1 fair maiden gets caught in the middle of an English Scot battle, a Scot warrior see's her comes to her aid and poof insta love.

In book 2 the brother of the warrior is sent to retrieve the fair maiden's sister who has been left at the castle back in England. How does he do this...well he of COURSE dresses as an Englishman gets the girl and then scares the heck out of her when poof he has a kilt and a scottish burr...yeah I would have shot him too!

This book did have humorous moments, but not enough to make up for drab ones.

This isn't really a stand alone read....from the first book "Charming the Shrew", we had a plot to kill the king. There was a lot of fallout from that plot which means Ailig now has to go home tell his dad that 1 brother is dead, 2 are in the service of the king for being idiots and oh yeah...Ailig has been ordered by the King to assume control of the Clan from his father IMMEDIATELY, or the Clan will have to face the consequences....lol..no big deal right?

All in all it was a good book, nice characters that we really got to know and overall I have to say I was very pleased even though there wasn't a lot of steam to go with my brooding highlander thoughts, but still good!

Yes, it's only $2, no idea why. It wasn't a great literary classic but it kept me wanting to listen. Our leading lady has had a tough life, and I mean tough! Forced to defend herself one day against an evil man she fled on horse to Scotland hoping to find refuge before the English soldiers found her....the evil man she fended off was a Barron, and she was a simple kitchen worker, with no right to refuse the advances of a man of his station.

While running for her life she comes across brawny highlander men who take one look at her beaten form and pledge to protect her, after all if they didn't their moms would skin them alive!

The story of her past unfolds and things are kind of predictable and it is a bit repetitive that the girl thinks she is ugly, and plain because she has been psychologically tortured her whole life but I say again, 12.5 hours for $2... How can you go wrong????

When Lady Johanna learned that she was a widow, she vowed she would never marry again. Only sixteen, already she possessed a strength of will that impressed all who looked past her golden-haired beauty. Yet when King John demanded that she remarry - and selected a bridegroom for her - it seemed she must acquiesce, until her beloved foster brother suggested she wed his friend, the handsome Scottish warrior Gabriel MacBain.

The ladies sounded like ladies, the men sounded like burly highlanders, very enjoyable listen!

The story was very good too! Our leading lady was married to a horrible "man", he used belittlement and beatings to get her submission, after 3 years of living in hell...he died, and she was free...or so she thought! The King is a horrible "man" and he thinks she has something on him so she is ordered to marry his most trusted Baron, a cruel man, and she can not and will not go through that again...her brother sweeps her away to the Highlands of Scotland and gives her to the most feared laird in the land...he's ruthless to his enemies but he's well respected and the brother has been in battle with him and finds him to be an honorable man.

Mass chaos ensues with an English woman being wife to a Scottish Laird, but it was very amusing to listen to and left you with a good feeling of hope and happiness when all was said and done, I really liked it!

I really liked this book, not your typical highlander story. This is the story about a Widow, granted she was Widowed at about 14 years old! Anyway, she's strong willed and eventually she returned home to her father and pretty much ran his house, even though he had a new wife and even her brothers had wives...she ran the house. Our Hero enters the story and he likes the spunk of our heroine and one thing leads to another and she is basically tricked into going back home with the man to run HIS house....she has experience at the job so why not. See, little known fact...once you are a Widow your father can't tell you that you HAVE to marry person X, your hand is yours to give...plus she inherited a good deal of money when her husband died.

It's a nice tale from start to finish and a LOT of steamy scenes, very graphic steamy scenes...once a Widow that whole virginity thing is supposedly gone so people are sort of okay with shaking up at that point :-)

I really liked it, I will have to check out some more of Stephanie Laurens books!

This will be the same review for all three books.

This series had some powerful stuff going on. There was concealment on both sides leading to misunderstanding and drama galore, but it was a nice growing relationship story. Sometimes I just stared at my phone thinking the leading lady was on crack, but she had her reasons for doing what she did, and he had his reasons for being the way he was.

This isn't up there with the Crossfire series because those are just exhausting to read with all the ups and downs, but this also wasn't memorable like some of the other trilogies I have read...maybe I'm being a poor sport about this but I think too much of their story was told. The old saying of first theirs love, then theirs marriage, then there is blank in the baby carriage...it was just told so clearly that it didn't leave much to the imagination.

The series is cheap enough so go ahead and purchase it, just save your credits for more powerful listens...I wouldn't call this series fluff but it wasn't gripping either.

I'm sorry, I guess I compare all things to Beautiful Bastard and this book has moments of brilliance but it isn't what BB was.

The narrator was GREAT! French accents, Australian accent, very well done! The story has a heap load of misunderstandings and contrived drama but I was able to make it to the end so that is saying something!

Lonely girl meets lonely boy and they get married in a night of drunken chaos...then because she is at a crossroads in her life she actually goes back to France with him for the summer, can they make this fake marriage real, or is it a really big mistake?

I liked that there were real life struggles and the play part was very cute, but overall it had a young read feel to and I guess I'm over that genre at the moment.
