Right up to the last hour of this book I would have given it a 5 star rating...then the plot made be bawl hysterically. I don't read fun steamy books to bawl, but I got so invested in the characters, due to the excellent writing and depth of them, that their sorrow became my sorrow....and that actually made me mad.
I would give the steamy scenes a B+, there was bondage, and a sub/dom thing going on, but in a tasteful and non porn kind of way, and over all the plot was very good, and believable.
So, in other words, it wasn't a MUST read of mine, but totally worth the $4.95 I got it on sale for.
It had potential, it did but both the story and the female narrator ruined it!
The owner of the Dojo is hot and appealing but he also uses these awkward phrases to try to be all Zen-like and it comes across as fake and ridiculous, partly due to the narrator over pronouncing things and lack of emotion at key points....when the guy asks the girl do you want me to do blank to you and she answers "yes" it should probably be a moaning yes not a robotic yes like someone asked you if you took milk in your coffee!
I really hate it when book 1 is awesome and book 2 is ridiculous! I want her, I need her, she is my air....until she isn't because I have to get rid of her for her own good....oh I'm not my mother, I refuse to be like her....until he dumps me for my own good so I will run around letting everyone hit on me now.
Nope, can't even finish it, it got too stupid.
When The Professional, book 1, first came out in 3 different parts I said no freaking way I am NOT getting 3 books for $4 and change each, that's WHY I have credits so I don't have to deal with things like that....then book 2 came out and I said well, since it's all together why not try it....holy crud!!!!!!!!!!!!
Murder, mafia, mayhem, hot, HOT, HOTTTTTTT scenes....alpha male, distressed female that still has a wicked backbone and yummy yummy scenes!!! WOW just wow, next book is an instant download, FOR SURE!
Now I have to break my promise to myself and *gulp* pay for that 3 part book because although this one is a decent stand alone hearing what happened in that first book makes me want to listen to it SOOO bad!
Guess what, the hype is real, and this book is totally worth it on every level!
Narrator....sigh....I really liked all the different voices, she portrayed the different characters wonderfully but I had to take off a star because the Spanish speaking leading lady sounded Russian, not Hispanic, but other than that totally awesome narration!
This is book 3, but a stand alone listen. Here we get to hear more about Bishop and his past and present and all of it is about winning back the woman he loves.
Yes, this story jumped back and forth from present to past (A LOT) but it was easy to keep up with and had really great story lines in both timelines. I really like how this author writes and would download her next book without blinking!
Narration was great, worthy of a credit.
This book dragged on and on and on! The leading lady is apparently oblivious to her attractiveness and lets everyone in her life, specifically her roommate, tear down her self esteem at every turn! The roommate eats her food, has no respect for her and just has sex on the couch and blames her for walking in, and is a total witch to her and she just takes it and takes it and poof a mysterious man who is a bad boy type keeps randomly showing up in her life and once again she is okay with drips and drabs of attention...UGH, done! I can't listen to this doormat anymore!
While the story did grab me as it unraveled I found it VERY disappointing. Our leading man had a lot of secrets and sometimes he kept those secrets just for the sake of continuing the story…I liked the strong female lead but at the same time how many chances do you give one man before you have to cut all ties for self-preservation purposes?
Too many convoluted story lines and one crushing story line about the death of a child….while I finished the book it did not leave me with any sense of a happily ever after euphoric moment I usually get when I finish reading a good book, instead it left me an emotional jumble for the hoops my head and heart went through to get to an ending that should have been simple to get to.
Not recommended….even though the narrators did an excellent job, BOTH OF THEM!
As in book 1 we find ourselves engulfed in a psychic world full of people after the psychic and only one of the brothers can protect her...except really I have to say he does a piss poor job of it. I have to say this series doesn't have the typical steam of a Maya book, but it was still okay to read.
Recommend you save it for a sale, it's kind of short and well not a lot going on.
I got lulled into a false sense of security, typical story really, rich handsome guy sees coffee waitress and BAM sparks of attraction fly and they HAVE to see each other...I thought oh okay, insta-love story, sit back and relax and enjoy the ride...but I forgot which author I was listening to! No Jodi Malpas story is just sit back and relax....and I enjoyed every minute of it! If you haven't read Jodi's THIS MAN series go ahead and pick it up too, this series, like that one, just doesn't disappoint.
The characters are DEEP, the relationships are intertwined, there is drama galore, but it's real drama not just misunderstandings that COULD have been cleared up but the author wasn't talented enough to create drama without it being contrived...soooo not the case here!
A slight word of warning, this is a British author, the book takes place in London, the characters have accents and if you can't handle that then don't get this book just to trash it because you don't know what a "tube" is...have I mentioned I loved this book?
Worthy of credit/sale/buy...even at twice the price worth the buy!
I am half way through #2, the first didn't leave you in a cliff hanger but it for sure left you wanting more...and more...and MORE!!! Not since Ava and Gideon have I been so obsessed with wanting more from a couple!
This author is an automatic download!
I gave it an hour....maybe this book turned out to be good maybe it didn't but the narrator ruined it!
The book takes place in SCOTLAND! So why is the narrator talking in an Irish accent then American accent, then Irish accent? Why don't the male characters sound any different than the female characters and why oh WHY do ANY of them sound American?
It wasn't the non-American story line that made me stop listening it was the absurd ping ponging in my brain of trying to figure out who was talking, especially when sometimes the "girl" who just had an American accent all of a sudden is saying "Feck" in full Irish Accent, while she is in Scotland! UGH!!!! I'm done...the story had hope but I just can't do it any more.
Reme Sinclair was born with a gift, she can touch an object and know all about that person, specifically she has used this gift to find kidnap victims, but she pays a price when she uses her gift, she experiences what the victim experiences....if they get hit she receives the same mark along her face, if they get raped....well...needless to say she feels her "gift" is more like a curse. She was in hiding, trying not to use her gift when a desperate Caleb seeks her out, his sister has been kidnapped. Reme is in hiding from a stalker...and she doesn't want to help Caleb, but he doesn't give her much of a choice...as Reme is plunged into his sisters hell on earth Caleb is horrified on what he has done to this frail little women and he can never forgive himself....but when she needs his protection he WILL be there for her.
I don't usually purchase books that are under 8 hours long, I just don't feel like I get my money's worth, and this is no exception. I got it because the idea of the Maya Banks in a paranormal world intrigued me...it was decent, but not great. This was an insta love implausible story, and I'm not even talking about the psychic part. This book would be perfect if purchased in a $4.95 sale, but as a credit it didn't give me enough...although I like the family and will get the other books, it just left me wanting more of a story.
Narration was EXCELLENT!
