Okay, I miss Dragos and the Griffins, that has got to be why I didn't fall in love with this book. This one doesn't even touch on NY or Dragos for more than 30 seconds just to say the main character went to the games in NY and it was fun..poof that was it, just a brief second to connect with the fan favorites of the Weir domain.
This story takes place in the Night kind Domain, the Vampire Domain, and it was a decent story, just not all enrapturing like the Weir Domain stories. In this story we hear from the Gin and the vampires mostly, and we got to hear more about Julian, which was good because he seemed really shady in other books due to all his interactions with Carling...anyway....If you like the Elder races you will like the book and revisiting this wonderful world of Mrs. Harrison, but think of it as a short story rather than the next novel in the series so you won't be disappointed.
If you haven't started this series just drop what you are doing and go download the first book...no seriously go now!
This has got to be one of the most highly rated series on Audible, and it is well deserved! This is a world full of vampires, protectors, hero's...and none of it is cheesy, and none of it is what you think it will be. These books are written for adults, and boy oh boy are they awesome!
This is the story of the french Immortal Lizette, and Zach the um...let's call him Seth's long lost cousin. I had to give this book 4 stars because it took a bit of head bashing for the truth to come out that I knew in chapter one and to be honest Mrs. Duvall doesn't usually play with us like that...but a 4 for an immortal guardian book is like a 7 for a normal run of the mill book.
The narrator was wonderful, as usual, and everyone has their own voice and the men sound like men...and some swoon worthy accents too! Yummy yummy!
If you are a fan of the series this book is required listening because we hear about all of our old friends...Rolland is still anti-social, although Zach could give him a run for his money on that one....Marcus is still over protective, David is still cool as ice and someone is having naughty dreams about Sheldon...oh and want to know what happens with Amy and her pregnancy......dum...dum....dummmmmmmmmmm Read on!
In this story we have a strong leading lady....she is a social worker and use to putting up with the dark side of life...she has a heart of gold but feels she isn't making a difference. Enter Connel...Prince of Atlantis who is 500 years old and recently released from 7 years of torture. He wasn't looking for the other half of his soul...but there she was on the beach and he was done for!
This story had twists and turns and although predictable at times it was in a good way. The leading lady Riley is one tough cookie, which I like in my heroins, and she puts Connel in his place...OFTEN. Social worker meets spoiled heir to the thrown...hehehe, it was a fun ride. The tension was thick and high and had some nice scenes.
Overall I would call this book Paranormal Romance Light...not too angsty, not edge of your seat nail bitter, but very well done. It helped that the mythical world of Atlantis was explained without going into the nitty gritty boring details...and of course there were some bad guys to deal with.
Overall I didn't mind the male narrator, wish the female voices were a bit more feminine, but the male voices were of course yummy yummy yummy!
Onto my next "A" book....how many of these do I have? I'm sure I will break into the "B" books soon...and I know I have at least one "C" book I haven't listened to yet.
The leading lady is struggling in life...she doesn't really know her place in the world so she is at a dead end job, with a string of dead end boy friends, she has just been playing it safe in life not willing to fully go after any one thing. Enter the hero of our story...Torment...yes that is his MMA fighter name and it suits him! He's damaged due to his past, she is damaged due to hers, can they heal each other or is the damage too great for either of them to have a happily ever after?
I liked this book, don't get me wrong...it had many great qualities that I like in a book. A dark hero, a lady in distress, and some kink...but it just didn't tie together like I thought it should. I can't put my finger on it, it just didn't all come together...maybe it needed to be longer, or maybe this is a fluff story trying to be deep and missing the mark?
I'd still be willing to read book 2 about Jake and Amanda, but it isn't on my list of dear God when is audible going to get that book!
Still, if you can catch it for a credit or on sale I say go for it, it was enjoyable.
Narrator does 1 good male voice and the rest just sound dopey. And the plot...gesh! Okay, I only got 2 hours into it, I won't lie, but I feel justified.
The heroine of the story was just plain dumb, I mean truly too stupid to live. She starts an affair with her practically engaged boss, realizes that is NOT a good plan and starts dating someone else. Of course the boss is pissed, the new guy is clueless, and everyone seems to be sleeping with everyone. Lots of cheating, no condoms used, and the word Love is tossed around like the word of the day!
I finally turned it off when guy#1 was at her house, and 2 minute after he leaves guy#2 knocks on her door....she jokes "What did you do drive around the block until the coast was clear?", he admits he did...then after guy#2 leaves guy#1 calls and she acts like she hasn't seen him in days...um....he was JUST THERE!!!
Poorly written, poorly executed, not worth the $4.95 I paid for it....and the "steamy" scenes had zero steam! They were written in almost a clinical way, no buildup, no play by play in a sensual way...have I mentioned this book had ZERO redeeming value?
Anyway, still going through my library of books I have purchased and never got around to listening to. I'm hoping my next "A" book is better than this drivel.
I have to say...it had such promise and then it got detoured, like through a volcano, on the other side of the world, during a time warp...detoured!
The synopsis has nothing to do with the plot, which in a nut-shell is:
Emma has heard a voice in her head for as long as she could remember...finally at age 22 the voice agrees that he is doing more harm than good and if she will travel to Mexico she can set his body free and he will get out of her head...so of COURSE she goes off to Mexico. There are chases, sexual tension (hampered by the fact that there is a consequence to touching him..of course there is!), a who can you trust plot...all in all it had really great bones but I guess the editor thought incessant whining and internal dialogue that goes on for HOURS was a good thing? *shrug*
In order to read this book you have to suspend reality, and I don't just mean like accept the idea that there are God"s", perhaps suspend common sense would be a better way to put it. The whole mess could have been avoided, the big dramatic climaxes were basically fizzled because you just stare at your listening device and say "well THAT was stupid!", as you slowly beat your head against the wall for STILL listening to this drivel!
WHEW, rant over...I obviously won't be getting another book by this author, but on the bright side narrator was decent! Her Spanish male accent....shiver!!!! *SIGH*
Okay enough said...off to some other nonsense in my library. I have decided I have too many unread books (curse you $4.95 sales), and so I'm starting at "A" and working through them...enjoy the ride!
No doubt I have just lost 20 or more of my followers by reviewing this book, BUT, can't help it!
This trilogy had the misfortune of being too hard for some, too soft for some, but it's real power was to introduce the vanilla crowd to....MORE.
It is not overly erotic....it is not a short and sweet romance...it's in between and you either LOVE it, or you HATE it....and I personally love it. I have been stuck lately with the same old same old plot of boring and repetitive books that are all the same but with different covers, I just had to pick if I wanted to read about a Navy Seal, a billionaire, cowboy, vampire or a shifter. *yawn*, so I went back to basics.
I have missed the Christian and Anna stories and am enjoying them again. If you hated them, then ignore this review...if you loved them, go ahead and re-visit, especially if you know more about kink now than you did the first time you read them.
Still dislike Becca Battoe, but I'm willing to put up with her for these books.
I was SOOO looking forward to this book. I loved Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster (Beautiful Disaster from the males point of view)....but this book was a waste.
While I loved hearing the humor of Jamie McGuire, and the quick witted characters, the whole plot fell flat. Add that to the fact that this takes place in the same time frame as Beautiful Disaster...with one bit of added information from the Travis/Abby storyline that I REALLY could have done without...and this book was just bad.
It tainted my memory of one of my most favorite books of all time, and it had contrived drama out the wazzu! There was a big secret eluded to shortly into the story and when the truth came out it was only a 3 second explanation and it was in the last 10 seconds of the book and it REALLY didn't have to be such a big secret. That "secret" caused way too much drama that never had to happen, so while I adore Jamie McGuire's writing style and humor I am not happy to have purchased this book and will likely return it.
Don't bother with this one...not even on sale!
This didn't exactly have the same feel as book 1 but it summed up the Brie/Sir relationship well. They had ups, they had downs, they had villains, they had hero's....and all along they had a love story.
It was fascinating to listen to the inner dialogue of a submissive...I don't know how factual it would be, but this book came across as natural and plausible.
There was room at the end for a slew of follow up books and I hope this author feels compelled to visit these characters again because I would definitely purchase any one of these characters stories...well maybe not Mistress Clark...but come on, she's just a witch!
If you like kink, or the Dom/sub world give these two books a chance, I for one will for sure be listening again!
If you are drawn to erotica with a BDSM twist and or the whole Dom sub idea...then automatically get this book, I mean right now! I could NOT stop listening, I mean I listened while I got ready in the morning, on my way into work, while at work....nope that was not me bopping along to music on my headphones that was me not being able to put down this book! I have NEVER read a book even close to this one before....maybe I'm sheltered but WOW, if there are more books like this I hope to find them soon!
Brianna is a struggling filmographer, she hasn't gotten her big Hollywood break yet so she works in a cigarette store to make ends meet and practices her craft on the weekends. One day a handsome man comes into the shop and she is drawn to him...but she doesn't know why. He leaves her a card with a web address for a school...a school to train submissives. She thinks it's a bunch of bull, but she looks into it...and that is when the fun begins! Through this intensive 6 week course we see Brianna grow into a "proper" sub and just bloom as she discovers who and what she really is. This book details her training which includes multiple partners, both male and female, and multiple BDSM tools are used on her and on others. This book was down right instructional, while it was entertaining.
There was no one clear love interest for the female lead, and that made it unlike any other book in this genre that I have ever read. Was there instant attraction, yes, but Brianna got to explore every side of her kinky nature with a variety of different type of people, places and things. At the end of the 6 week course she decides to pick a Master...but at the start of graduation even she doesn't know who to pick...there are so many sides to her kink and finding one man to be her everything is not an easy thing.
I adore, adore, adore this book!!! The narrator was wonderful...the hot scenes had my earphones melting, and listening to this woman grow into a better stronger version of herself was empowering to the reader. I have already downloaded book 2 which is her life after graduation...and no there is not cliffhanger....I just want to see what happens with her and the Dom that she chose.
I would buy this book at full non-member price if I had to....never have I been so engrossed in a book before. If you are interested in the kink side of life, or just like reading about it, this book could not come more highly recommended!
