"Good Fun"
My little ADD/ASD girl is completely wrapped in this story and keeps pinching my ipod to play it. I think the narrator isn't as good as the narrator of the 39 clues but enjoyable all the same.
"Maddeningly Verbose"
I was excited by the other reviews and a keen fan of the tv series but I am struggling to wade through this adjective-laden prose. It took 20 minutes this morning just to describe the ship pulling into dock! The author's compulsion to add alien detail has crowded out action and engagement with characters like an infestation of Silburian Slug Worms from the Obellian Galaxy.
"Fun but..."
I'm new to the Harry Bosch thing. It's an enjoyable listen with the occaisional cool twist but the whole impulsive cop thing is a huge cliche. Somehow it is never a good idea to call for backup. Why is that? If a deeply evil serial killer has managed to escape twice already, why not shoot him in the leg straight up instead of giving him an opportunity to escape... AGAIN? That aside, there is a wry sense of humour and a great sense of place that gives this series its deserved reputation.
"Quite enjoyable"
Joshilyn Jackson reads her vivid prose well. The story is just a little short of being awesome but it is definitely an enjoyable listen.
"Brilliant."
Really well read and for once Jodi doesn't kill off a favourite character at the end.
"A treasure from my childhood"
I remember reading this book as a child and I can't believe I was able to find it - and so beautifully read too!
"A bit depressing"
This was quite depressing to listen to. The ending lifted it somewhat but sitting in traffic, I received no relief in this tale.
"Enthralling"
My daughter and I have been listening to this for the last couple of weeks with keen excitement. It has been wonderful to see her drawn into the historical elements, the rich language and vivid characterisations. Thoroughly enthralling!
"utterly delightful"
This is one of those stories that can completely transport you. Beautifully read and one I will listen to again and again.
"Initially a bit hard going"
Initially this book was a bit difficult to settle with. The characters seemed a bit over the top along with the sadistic elements. The narrator's voice was also a little off putting, somewhat clipped and providing a swedish uncle with a bluff englishman's vocal tones but by the end I was cheering the the main character and keen to hear the next installment. Worth persevering!
