Bill Black is a scary guy: a tall ex-con who rides to work on a Harley, and trails an air of violence wherever he goes. In Macon, Georgia, Bill has caught the eye of a wiry little drug dealer and his cunning girlfriend. They think Bill might be a useful ally. They don’t know that Bill is a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent named Will Trent. Or that he is fighting his own demons, undercover and cut off from the support of Sara Linton - the woman he loves, who he dares not tell he is putting himself at such risk.

The story continues and while it does not pick up where the last book left off, it is still satisfying. Will is deep undercover and we get an up close look at the sacrifices officers make. Sad, brutal, but compelling story with characters who will stick with you.

Eve Dallas has solved a lot of high-profile murders for the NYPSD and gotten a lot of media. She - and her billionaire husband - are getting accustomed to being objects of attention, of gossip, of speculation. But now Eve has become the object of one person's obsession. Someone who finds her extraordinary, and thinks about her every hour of every day. Who believes the two of them have a special relationship. Who would kill for her - again and again....

Without a doubt Eve is back on track. Though not as much of some of the supporting cast, there is enough of the main characters to keep me happy. This killer's motive haunts Eve but makes her realize how many friends she has. She continues to grow in putting her past behind her and appreciating the life she has now. I am a happy listener!

What I love about the "First in a Series" sale is just what Audible hopes. I find some great books at a good price and sometimes I get more of the series. This was a good find and I definitely will be getting more of these. Enjoy!

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

I have to admit I liked the backstory here better than the main storyline. This book is not boring but it is full of sad, damaged characters trying to break free of the past. Not a good choice for the sad or depressed.

Despite narration that sounded like Grumpy Old Men, I stuck with this book until the end. Plot holes abound but it was fairly interesting. The ending destroyed it for me though leaving me wishing I had never purchased this book. Sad.

A long-buried family secret resurfaces when one of Aloysius Pendergast's most implacable enemies shows up on his doorstep as a murdered corpse. The mystery has all the hallmarks of the perfect murder, save for an enigmatic clue: a piece of turquoise lodged in the stomach of the deceased. The gem leads Pendergast to an abandoned mine on the shore of California's desolate Salton Sea, which in turn propels him on a journey of discovery deep into his family's sinister past.
