On Manhattan’s Upper East Side, a woman lies dead at the bottom of a brownstone’s basement steps, stripped of all her valuables. Most cops might call it a mugging gone wrong, but Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better. A well-off accountant and a beloved wife and mother, Marta Dickenson doesn’t seem the type to be on anyone’s hit list. But when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the brownstone, she knows Marta’s murder is the work of a killer who’s trained, yet not professional or smart enough to remove all the evidence.

I was so blown away by New York to Dallas it almost spoiled me. I did not think Celebrity in Death was nearly as good. But Calculated in Death is better. I could have used a little more Sommerset as I love the interaction between them but all Eve and Roarke fans will enjoy this book.

I am not a fan of supernatural themes but it is woven so soundly into this story it is almost believable. Margaret the unattainable falls in love trying to save her brothers in this totally entertaining tale. And of course Rosalyn Landor is the best.

A decade ago, the Marquess of Bourne was cast from society with nothing but his title. Now a partner in London's most exclusive gaming hell, the cold, ruthless Bourne will do whatever it takes to regain his inheritance - including marrying perfect, proper Lady Penelope Marbury. A broken engagement and years of disappointing courtships have left Penelope with little interest in a quiet, comfortable marriage, and a longing for something more. This is the second book I have gotten by this author. While the story is less tight and more gruesome than Spilled Blood, the characters draw you in and the story tugs at your heartstrings. Well worth the time and credit.

Linked by the Spirit River, the two towns couldn’t be more different: in affluent Barron, a powerful and secretive scientific research corporation enriches its residents, while downriver in blue-collar St. Croix, victims of that company’s carcinogenic waste struggle to survive. The bad blood between the communities escalates into open warfare when the beautiful Ashlynn, daughter of the corporation’s president, is found shot dead—and a St. Croix girl, Olivia Hawk, is accused of the crime.

There isn't much fun in the sun when a billionaire real estate tycoon is found murdered on the Tilt-a-Whirl at a seedy seaside amusement park in the otherwise quiet summer tourist town of Sea Haven. John Ceepak, a former MP just back from Iraq, has just joined the Sea Haven police department. The job offer came from an old Army buddy who hoped to give Ceepak at least a summer's worth of rest and relaxation to help him forget the horrors of war. Instead, Ceepak will head up the murder investigation.

I will confess that I bought this book because I could get it for $1.99 after buying the Kindle book for 99 cents. It was just a fun, entertaining listen. No gross torture or even love or sex. But very interesting characters who will leave you wanting to know more about them. I am already into the next book of the series.
