The women at Vows - a wedding planning company in Connecticut - make it their business to create memorable events for couples sealing their bonds. And though the bonds among Parker, Emma, Mac, and Laurel may not be official, they are very real - and equally worthy of celebration.

    "Not so much"

Never listened to Nora Roberts before- not sure if this inspired me to buy more although I have heard they can be addictive. Trying not to be offensive but the narrator's lisp is very distracting and each character has the same voice- not distinction and everything is said in a sing-song, high school way. Really wanted to like the story but its just to hard to get past the narrator.

It's the week before Christmas, and antiques dealer Weezie Foley is in a frenzy to deck out her shop for the Savannah historical district decorating contest, which she intends to win. Weezie is ready to shoot herself with her glue gun by the time she's done, but the results are stunning. She's certainly one-upped the owners of the trendy shop around the corner, but suddenly things start to go missing from her display and there seems to be an uninvited midnight visitor to her shop.

What disappointed you about Blue Christmas?

This is the 4th book I've listened to by this author and narrator. The narration was horrendous! The men sounded like drunk versions of Forrest Gump and none of the characters were distinct. The accents were all over the place and the characters lacked the fun sassy attitude that they had previously. Loved these characters from the previous books but this was a torturous listen. The story was thin and lacking all around.

A rookie paramedic pulls a young woman alive from her totaled car, a first rescue that begins a lifelong tangle of love and wreckage. Sheila Arsenault is a gorgeous enigma--streetwise and tough-talking, with haunted eyes, fierce desires, and a never-look-back determination. Peter Webster, as straight an arrow as they come, falls for her instantly and entirely. Soon Sheila and Peter are embroiled in an intense love affair, married, and parents to a baby daughter.

I have read and listened to a lot of Anita Shreve but this one just fell flat. It lacked the gravity it thought it conveyed. It completely lacked emotion and was just blah. None of it resonates and while the narrator is very good there is just no depth here. Its simply trite. Skip it.

Annie loves Duncan - or thinks she does. Duncan loves Annie, but then, all of a sudden, he doesn't. Duncan really loves Tucker Crowe, a reclusive Dylanish singer-songwriter who stopped making music 10 years ago. Annie stops loving Duncan, and starts getting her own life. In doing so, she initiates an e-mail correspondence with Tucker, and a connection is forged between two lonely people who are looking for more out of what they've got.

    "Ehh...not his best"

This is just not Hornby's best work. I did not feel any emotional attachment to the characters and at then end, was not so upset that it was over.

Nan is back. After living abroad for 12 years, she and her husband, Ryan, aka H.H., have returned to New York to make a life for themselves. In the midst of getting her new business off the ground and fixing up their fixer-upper, Ryan announces his sudden desire to start a family. His timing simply couldn't be worse. To compound the mounting chaos, her former charge, Grayer X, now 16 years old, makes a drunken, late-night visit, wanting to know why she abandoned him all those years ago.

    Overall

What fun!! I did not hold out much hope for the sequel even though I really liked the original. However, this is just fabulous. Intelligent, witty writing that makes this guilty pleasure feel not so guilty. Narrator was wonderful and captured the New York attitude. I found myself laughing out loud at parts- so much fun.

Honora and Sexton are just settling into their new marriage, and have just bought their beloved New Hampshire house, when the economy crashes and everything in their world changes. Anita Shreve presents a "literary novel of the caliber and craft of Edith Wharton or Henry James," says the Baltimore Sun.

    Deneen says: "A pleasant surprise!"
    "Not her best"
    Overall

This book is beyond predictable and while I love Fortune's Rock this lacks the intensity that is necessary to truly relate to the characters. The narration is good but it ends and feels a little trite. Perhaps its just that the story is not as relatable and seems a bit dated. It does not transcend time. Its a bit cliche.

Few works of literature are as universally beloved as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Now, in this spellbinding historical novel, we meet the young girl whose bright spirit sent her on an unforgettable trip down the rabbit holeand the grown woman whose story is no less enthralling.

Christine says: "Wonderful...but missing the author's note"
    "A little creepy but interesting"
    Overall

I didn't know what to expect but it took me a long time to get past the creepiness factor. This seemed more like the makings for an episode of Law and Order SVU than a book based on a children's story. It took a while to get past the fact that at points this is a love story between a 7 year old and a 25 year old. While the author is not condoning this dynamic, and it is critical to the story, its still a little strange.

At the end of her best-selling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met. Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government....

    Nancy says: "Perfect timing"
    "Not Eat, Love, Pray"
    Overall

This felt more like a history textbook than a personal story. I kept finding myself drifting. She digressed and frequently explored tangents that while they were not totally unrelated, did not keep my attention. She did a great job narrating but its not the sequel I was expecting.
