I am a huge Hemingway fan and my favorite is A Sun Also Rises. I listened to the audio book A Sun Also Rises and this immediatly after and that made is much more interesting. I loved finding out where the character Brett came from, how Hadley felt not being part of the novel and how she was involved with Hemingway. I knew Hemingway was a womanizing drunk going into this, it was just interesting to hear how it effected her life. I did find the reader to be a little whiney, but I think that is what she was trying to get across. Very good listen!
While I like a little romance I felt like I kept listening to the same sex scene over and over.
Less sex, more plot and not so sappy!
Yes - the performance was well done.
I just didn't think it had a very good plot. I felt like a 16 year old wrote the book.
I like chick lit, but thinking romance audio books are not for me!
The author was also the narrator. What an amazing young man! His wonderful descriptions of the children sucked me in immediatly. He was funny and entertaining, and you could tell what he was thinking throughout his whole amazing journey.
The children and the narrator. They ARE the story.
His easy way of speaking and describing the environment of Napal. His descriptions of the children.
This was a wonderful real life tale. The women portrayed in this were amazing and the author and narrator keep you engaged through out. I felt the fear and the betrayal of a country turned against it's own citizens, but also an appreciation of why events unfolded the way they did. It helped me understand what it felt like to have the taliban take over your neighborhood and the women shut into their homes, only to find a way to keep themselves occupied as well as make a living in such an environment! This really is a must listen to for anyone interested in women in Afghanistan and their survival and strength. I was in awe.
The Kite Runner
When the Taliban regime had just taken over and how it affected the women.
I had many "drive way" moments where I couldn't get out of my car because I wanted to listen to the end of a chapter.
I listened to this and then A Paris Wife right after. Simply amazing experience for a Hemingway fan!! William Hurt is a a wonderful! If you want to experience Hemingway the right way, listen to this book! Skip the Old Man and the Sea and go for teh gusto of bull fighting!!
I knew little about North Korea before listening to this book but I feel like I know it and it's history much better now. It was an amazing narrative of what it must be like to live there and what the country has gone through over the past 40 years. I usually enjoy fiction, but I couldn't get enough of each person's story and what became of them. Really a wonderful book!
