Synthesizing cutting-edge research and first-hand reporting, Peg Tyre offers parents far smarter and more sophisticated ways to assess a classroom and decide if the school and the teacher have the right stuff. Passionate and persuasive, The Good School empowers parents to make sense of headlines; constructively engage teachers, administrators, and school boards; and figure out the best options for their children.

Excellent reliance on applicable, contemporary educational research. Tyre makes the point that in no other professional field is there such a push and pull to use one hundred year old technology. As consumers we demand that most other professional disciplines make full use of current technology, but in the field of education, not so much. The theme of the book is to acquaint parents with information about the current education research, and to provide methodologies for using that research to maximize the opportunities for their child to become a good learner. Plenty of statistics, data, and anecdotes. Really a good job. I wish I had received such counsel twenty years ago. Potter is an excellent narrator; good choice for this informative work, great enunciation and very neutral accent. Because of her narration style, this book works well on the new Audible faster speed options.
