I was drawn to this because of David Hyde Peirce's voice. He was the only good thing about this book. The initial part of the story was pretty cool. You would never see a movie or series actually based on the entire story. The author's narrative becomes soooooo boring. The story gets weirder and darker. Had I downloaded the entire book for free --- I still would not have rated it better than a ONE star.
Something narrated byTim Pigott-Smith
None. I hope David Hyde Pierce gives his royalties to a charity.
Why would anyone want a short synopsis of this great book. Any number of reviews had better "quick synopsis than this did." Coles Notes used to do a better job of things like this.
It was annoying.
Don't waste your time even downloading it.
Absolutely. Great short read. The story is super and what's even better is that it is narrated by Len Cariou. Too bad the current Harry Bosch books are being destroyed by using other narrators.
Len has a great voice. He does a great job with the voices and the narration parts.
Well worth it. This short story is great to read after you read the Mickey Haller - The Gods of Guilt.
Dick Hill or Len Cariou reading.
We got two cold case stories in one - that's the good part. The ending was so abrupt and poor and not tied up very well. It was like Connelly suddenly realized he needed his pay cheque, so he just ended it.Very depressing ending.
Dick Hill or Len Cariou, or just about anyone else. Didn't they try Titus Welliver out first? Actually he does most of the voices pretty well! ...Except the one that counted...HARRY!. The parts that are straight narration were totally unbearable too.
We got two cold case stories in one. So, if you just skip the last chapter and never listen to it you will be much happier with your own imagined ending.
This would be a great movie, and then someone could fix the ending.
Only the action packed ending was worth paying for.
This was the only Bosch book that was dissappointing. The rest were all great.
Dick Hill or Len Cariou or anyone other than Michael McConnohie. It seemed like McConnohie never read or listened to other Bosch books before. Way too boring.
Almost seemed like Michael Connelly got someone else to write this. The ending was action packed and quicked paced, as usual...but, the characters and relationships weren't really developed. Mostly boring until the last few chapters. Maybe the narrator was bored too! Really, only Dick Hill or Len Cariou could have saved this book.
I don't usually listen to this type of book, but it was quite enjoyable.
Both were great.
No. Too much going on al the time...needed to take breaks to appreciate it.
Kind of tough to keep up with all the characters they were interacting with (names, jargon, etc), but it didnt stop me from getting through the book. This isn't my usual genre, so I am not sure I will want to go past this Book One of the series, but on its own, still worth it!
Sure I would recommend this. With a warning that it is really, really violent. But what a great woven story! Lots of ellements to it. You will like the character so much with the narrator's voice.
AWEsome as usual.
I am not going to see the first Jack Reacher movie that is now out... after listening to the character played/narrated by Dick Hill, I just can't imagine enjoying the movie having Jack Reacher played by "T.C."
Story, main character and Narrator, all great!
I found this book by searching for more narrations by Dick Hill. What a great talent!
If you've never read/listened to Michael Connelly's work, or the genre of a guy like Harry Bosch, this is a great way to start. The Narrator's work is super!
I decided to try Lee Child because I have really liked the Narrator's work. Glad I bought the book ! The story really keeps you wanting to listen.
Dick Hill again is amazing!
You won't be dissappointed. Pretty violent in places, but you can get past it with the way the story evolves, and again, the narration is brilliant.
