Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life's passion. Without the second, the mummy's curse would have made corpses of them all.

I agree with the 5-star ratings I have read in these reviews. The fresh perspective I would like to share is that this series is wholesome and entertaining enough for older children. I invited my 12 yr old daughter to listen to this book after I previewed it for her. While Miss Peabody seems to think her sexual ideas are rather risque for her era, they are modest enough for me to expose my daughter too, and as the series progresses, sets a wholesome example of how joyous sex can be in the confines of the marriage bed, without speaking of it explicitly.
My daughter is studying ancient civilizations this school year, and the archeology information presented in this book brings her studies to life. Also, I can honestly say that each book is more humorous and interesting than the last. My daughter and I eagerly anticipate each new episode.

There was no doubt about it. What Miss Harriet Pomeroy needed was a man. Someone powerful and clever who could help her rout the unscrupulous thieves who were using her beloved caves to hide their loot. But when Harriet summoned Gideon Westbrook Viscount St. Justin to her aid, she could not know that she was summoning the devil himself.

I adore Amanda Quick books but this one just did not capture my interest at all. This is the third time I have listened to it, and this time I just could not finish it. (I am listening to all of her books again).

    "Great Narration, Bad Recording!"
    Overall

Nevada Barr is a great writer, and her character, Anna Pigeon reminds one of a modern day version of Elizabeth Peter's character, Amelia Peabody Emerson. Joanna Gleason does a very good job narrating, almost as good as the great Barbara Rosenblat!
Two flaws with this audio: it is only available abridged (way to abridged to be easy to follow!) ; and the audio is very poorly recorded and very difficult to hear, even through Bose noise reducing headphones. Without these flaws, this would be a 5 star audiobook.
