Fresh from a six-month sojourn in Italy, Lady Julia returns home to Sussex to find her father's estate crowded with family and friends: but dark deeds are afoot at the deconsecrated abbey, and a murderer roams the ancient cloisters.

    Judy says: "Wrong narrator listed"
    "Absurdly predictable"

Extremely disappointing. If you have any brains at all you will know who the murderer is before the murder is even committed. The characters are painfully stupid and inept. I couldn't finish it.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

    Zachary says: "Matterhorn"
    "Excellent author, excellent narrator"
    Overall

A fantastic book, whether you typically enjoy war novels or not. Beautifully written--subtle, painful, poignant, at times gruesome and at times nearly lyrical--Matterhorn and its characters will become part of the landscape of your consciousness.

Add to that the fact that Bronson Pinchot is stunning as narrator--his is one of the best readings I have ever heard, hands down (and I have listened to hundreds of audio books)--and you can't go wrong. Pinchot's voice may seem a bit flat in the first few minutes, but only because he is saving his unbelievable range for the characters that bring this book to life. Absolutely masterful reading.

Haunting, well-written book. You will not be disappointed.
