Haunted by the past, John Rain kills to order and leaves no trace, but the death at his hand of an old man has unforeseen complications - and soon Rain is trying to protect not just his carefully preserved anonymity but his own life and those of the people he cares for. A stunning, page-turning reinvention of the hitman thriller, Rain Fall marks the introduction of a compelling new series character and major new thriller writing career.

George says: "Great new take on the Assassin Genre"
    "WHAT A TREAT!"
    Overall

I am a very difficult person to please with "books on tape" - that said, Rain Fall was AWESOME. I actually drove to all sorts of places just so I could hear the story since I listen to the stories in my car.
The narrator is great and gives life to the story (some of the words are so complicated, thankfully Brian is Japanese!).
Barry Eisler is obviously very smart as the story is intriguing and well written. I can't wait to hear more of Barry's works.

  • The Broken Window: A Lincoln Rhyme Novel, Book 8

When Lincoln's estranged cousin Arthur Rhyme is arrested on murder charges, the case is perfect - too perfect. Forensic evidence from Arthur's home is found all over the scene of the crime, and it looks like the fate of Lincoln's relative is sealed.

Audiophile says: "Long, Complex, and Good."
    "Starts out well, but ..."
    Overall

Good start to a story that ran out of gas. The end was hyper predictable - the last part of the book just dragged. On top of that, Deaver makes a mistake in that after the climax, the book keeps going! Just END IT!
I was committed and was hoping that this story would turn around: WRONG, I think there are much better books out there and you should save your credits on this one. Sorry if this is a negative review, I like JD's works. BUT I think this one was a swing and a miss!

Reading this book will make you paranoid. I keep looking over my shoulder for assassins. I double back when I go anywhere. I know I am being followed.
This BOOK is addictive and will make you insane. John Rain is a BAMF.

In Killing Rain, Rain has a new employer, the Mossad, which needs an operator who can remove 'problems' in Asia, and a new partner: Dox, the ex-marine sniper and party animal first introduced in Rain Storm. He also has a new hope, that by using his fearsome talents in the service of something good, he might atone for all the lives he has already taken.

Amazon Customer says: "I give this book my highest rating."
    "SEX - KILLING - ACTION"
    Overall

This book has it all! A thrill ride with John and Dox. Couldn't wait to get in my car to listen to this audio book. The narrator was pretty good although a little more vocal variety would have made the experience complete. On the whole, great story. You won't be disappointed unless you don't like action and fun!

She’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. Carpenter, the Paterson, N.J., lawyer whose wealth allows him to work as seldom as he chooses, is recovering from the loss of the love of his life, Laurie Collins, who has moved home to Findlay, Wis., to become the acting chief of police. When Laurie calls Andy for help after arresting 21-year-old Jeremy Davidson for murders that she thinks he didn't commit, Andy can't resist heading off to Findlay with his faithful dog, Tara.

    Overall

Andy Carpentar - the wise cracking lawyer, had enough. It was cute for book 1 and 2, now it is time for Andy to retire. I kinda, sorta enjoyed this very predicatble story. After you figure it out, the story drags and you just want it to end. The moments when you say, "Didn't see that coming," were not present in this story. Save your credits and get something else. Try Barry Eisler's Rain Series if you want a thrill ride!

John Rain - half-Japanese, half-American, raised in both countries but at home in neither - is trying to leave his life as a freelance assassin. After killing a CIA officer who hunted him halfway around the globe, Rain goes underground, hoping to find the peace that has eluded him. But then Tatsu, his old nemesis from the Japanese FBI, comes to him with one last job.

    Anthony says: "great ride"
    "Freaking Amazing!!!!!"
    Overall

I can't believe how smart Barry Eisler must be! His character, John Rain, is fantastic. I feel smart just listening to the book. I AM smart for listening to this book.

I can't wait to get in my car to listen to what John is going to do next. The narration is suberb. The way the names and places are pronounced is perfect and gives you a "feel" for the area. The story itself is intricate and has just enough detail to keep you interested. Eisler has done a masterful job to walk the line of too much detail and not enough for my taste. I am sorry that there is only one more Rain book. I hope Barry writes more!

When a cop's body is found burned and decapitated, the last thing Andy Carpenter expected is for a stranger to waltz into his office and admit to the crime. For the wise-cracking millionaire defense attorney suffering from "lawyer's block", the case looks like a no-brainer...until the cops pick up another suspect: Andy's lead P.I., Laurie Collins, who happens to be the love of his life.

    A. Wright says: "Read series in order"
    "Read Open and Shut FIRST!"
    Overall

Good story, but you should read Open and Shut first or this story will ruin David Rosenfelt's first book.
About the narrator: Try a little vocal variety. I had a hard time figuring out who was who since EVERYONE sounded the same. Try an accent, try changing the cadence, try SOMETHING.
Well written story, atrocious narrator. Get's on your nerves.
Too bad, because the story is really good!

Whether dueling with new forensics or the local old boys' network, irreverent defense attorney Andy Carpenter always leaves them awed with his biting wit and winning fourth-quarter game plan. But the fun stops the day Andy's dad, Paterson, New Jersey's legendary ex-DA, drops dead in front of him at a game in Yankee Stadium.

    Overall

When you hear this book, i think you will laugh out loud. The author is very entertaining and if you like sarcastic humor, this book is for you. The story is good too and it is a fun listen.
Imagine James Woods is the narrator (I know it's not, but imagine). Sometimes imagine it is Andy Rooney reading the story. You will understand once you listen.
    I really enjoyed this book.

    Wilhelmina says: "The Witness"
    "Cool start - predictable finish"
    Overall

Loved the start, twists and turns; however, half-way through the book got very predictable. Then you had to go through the drivel. Good book if you like some mindless entertainment, for me, I enjoy Deaver's way of twisting the story until the very END. Obviously this is just my opinion, you may like it!
