Blue at the Mizzen ended with Jack Aubrey getting the news of his elevation to flag rank: Rear Admiral of the Blue Squadron, with orders to sail to South Africa. The next novel, never completed, would have been the chronicle of that mission and much else besides. The three chapters left on O'Brian's desk at the time of his death are presented here. Though tantalizingly incomplete, these pages prove that O'Brian's humor, powers of observation, and understanding of his characters were undiminished to the end.

At this conclusion of the book 21 ending in mid sentenance and the prologe i found my self wondering if i could finish the book my self in my head. I realized the Mr. O'Brian's story telling is so far out of my legue that I coun't hold a candel to him.
So after all 21 books by Mr. O'Brain and listing to Mr. Simon Vance's voice, I was sad to finish them. All 21 and including the short book 21 are excelent reads! I recomend them to everyone who enjoys history and a great story line
I enjoyed Mr. Vance's narration so much that i started the "The girl with the dragon tatto" serries and he is just as amazing with the voices of each person as ever.

I was recommend to start the Jack Ryan series after I finished the Girl with the dragon tattoo series. I said I seen most of the movies....He just laughed and said." The books blow away the movies!. Red October was excellent! the in depth description of the subs and the political aspects of the story made me enjoy it even more! I highly recommend Tom Clancy! I just downloaded Patriot Games!

Life ashore may once again be the undoing of Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy. With the outbreak of peace in 1814, Aubrey fears being "yellowed" - that is, nominally promoted to the rank of admiral without a squadron to command. But Stephen Maturin returns from France with the news that the Chileans, to secure their independence, require an English navy. And just as Jack is dusting off his captain's hat, an urgent dispatch orders him to Gibraltar: Napoleon has escaped from Elba.

Captain Jack Aubrey is ashore on half pay without a command, until Stephen Maturin arrives with secret orders for Aubrey to take a frigate to the Cape of Good Hope under a commodore's pennant, there to mount an expedition against the French-held islands of Mauritius and La Reunion. But the difficulties of carrying out his orders are compounded by two of his own captains, Lord Clonfert, a pleasure-seeking dilettante, and Captain Corbett, whose severity pushes his crew to the verge of mutiny.
