From the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and author of the essay collection Shiksa Goddess, a dazzling debut novel, a comedy about New York's urban gentry living in a post-9/11 world, the arbiters of fashion and the doyennes of charity balls; about the rich and the nouveau rich(er), the glamorous and the desperate-to-be.

    Overall

Looking for something that would dissect the emotions and goings on of New Yorkers post 9/11...what I got was a story of over privileged selfish characters who were completely unsympathetic. The characters are so one dimensional that they are unrealistic. Disliked very much.

Everything in Elizabeth Egan's life has its place, from the espresso cups in her gleaming kitchen to the swatches and paint pots of her interior-design business. Order and precision keep life under control, and keep Elizabeth's heart safe from the pain and hurt she has suffered in the past. Being a reluctant mother to her six-year-old nephew while trying to keep her design business on track is a full-time job for Elizabeth.

    L. Calder says: "Ingenious story line, lovely narrator"
    "Enchanting"
    Overall

    An enchanting story...superbly read...what a treat.
