Yes, loved the narration
Didn't follow the usual predictable storyline, you had to keep reading.
No, but will look forward to reading more of his work.
Marion - this character was the one with the most depth. His father Thomas is quite dislike able as is his childhood love interest.uch empathy can be felt for Marion. But he needed a good shake (or a cold shower) when he met Genet again later in the book. Something at the start of the book had me believing I knew the outcome at an event later in the book. Well done Abraham, you had me duped.
If you don't like graphic surgical descriptions, brace yourself. Only one had me wishing he wasn't quite so graphic, but get through that and it is a good read. Give it a go - for a surgeon, he does a pretty good job as an author.
The story grabs you and holds your attention. This book really entices you to become absorbed and lose track of reality. Loved the narrators, especially as old Jacob.
Haven't read anything like this for a long time. Makes you laugh, makes you cry.
Believable narration, you really develop a rapport with the characters they are portraying. Some characters are not very likeable and this also came across with the narration.
Jacob, the main character is the most memorable as you would expect. He is a very real character with some faults. Even though you develop a great empathy with Jacob, his weakness placing others at risk for his love (hard on) for a married woman made me want to slap him. Won't give away the story, if you were offended by my use of the description - hard on, do not read this book, it will offend your finer sensibilities. If not- give it a go- you will love the journeyand all the ups and downs on the circus train.
Highly recommended - a great read.
The narration was fabulous and the story was well written and kept me hooked the whole time.
How it was based on recent history. Loved the interaction between characters.
They took on the characters and made them believable, likeable and so very easy to listen to.
I would get so involved with the character and would be disappointed at the end of the chapter and couldn't wait to get to the next time we would meet. But within a few lines I would be engrossed on the life of the next character. I loved the one I was reading about at the time. All were memorable and will stay with me for a long time.
No need to dissect the story - just trust me - Get this book!
Not a title I would recommend. For spy fans there is no mystery or espionage. Would recommend if you like books with no drama, intrigue.
Add some drama, add some colour to this grey and drab story. Because the rest of the story was so nondescript, he could have added more believable lovers for this supposedly beautiful woman. Old, gay and physically unattractive seemed to be her preferred choice. The story was OK - but a bit Margaret Drabble like (who by the way I finding boring)
Hard to judge with the material she had to work with- yawn.
I really could not get into this story, I did try, really I did, but I would have vetoed the whole book when it first hit my editors desk.
Sometimes it is not about the destination but the journey, this book unfortunately didn't leave the station, you sit on board waiting for the train to move and it never starts. It is hard for me to find a book or genre that I can't get into, but this book despite the good reviews was one I could not get my Sweet Tooth into.
