It's springtime in Styria. And that means war. There have been nineteen years of blood. The ruthless Grand Duke Orso is locked in a vicious struggle with the squabbling League of Eight, and between them they have bled the land white. While armies march, heads roll, and cities burn, behind the scenes bankers, priests, and older, darker powers play a deadly game to choose who will be king.

Lore says: "Solid, but not as good as the First Law trilogy."
    "Wow!"

I got this expecting it to be ho-hum, something to listen to on a 7 hour drive back and forth. Turned out to be an unexpected gem. I enjoyed the story, the subject is kind of grim, but it is funny at times and interesting. Very character based, often I will listen to a story and wonder who each character actually is, or heck even reading stories that happens to me, not with this one, (I may mispell their names since I listened to all this and didn't read it) Shivers, Shank, Morcato!?, Orso, Dae, and Kosca, all of them were incredible characters that I cared about and worried for, though my favorite by far was Friendly. I am going to buy all his other books for a few trips I am taking and to read at the beach tomorrow. :-)

A comet the color of blood and flame cuts across the sky. And from the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding shores of Winterfell, chaos reigns. Six factions struggle for control of a divided land and the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, preparing to stake their claims through tempest, turmoil, and war.

The reader was nice sounding and the story, wow the story. The intrigues between the various Lannisters is almost enough for a book of its own. I would like to hear more about Daneryres (the dragon queen).
