As usual, a great crime novel, and great characters.
Captivating dialogue, performed brilliantly by Richard Ferrone.
Can't wait to listen to the next one.

Thousands of autonomous computer programs, or daemons, make our networked world possible, running constantly in the background of our lives, trafficking e-mail, transferring money, and monitoring power grids. For the most part, daemons are benign, but the same can't always be said for the people who design them.

I don't usually write reviews, but in this case I have to say two things. 1 - Fantastic book!
2 - If I would have been reading a paper version, I would have thrown it across the room after I read the last page.
Warning: This book ends in the middle of the story, and it is a GREAT story, so you will want to begin the next chapter (in the next book) immediately. So have Freedom ready to start as soon as you finish Daemon.
    Also, great narration job.

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art---and he is the city's most accomplished artist, his talents required from alleyway to courtly boudoir. For Azoth, survival is precarious, something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums and learned to judge people quickly---and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint. But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name.

Would you try another book from Brent Weeks and/or Paul Boehmer?

Not Brent Weeks. Narration/performance by Paul Boehmer was excellent.

Would you ever listen to anything by Brent Weeks again?

    No

What about Paul Boehmer’s performance did you like?

Very good job with all the different characters, good pacing, and he just has a pleasing tone.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

This is one of the few books I've listened to where I was anxious for it to be done - because it was painful. I've read and listened to many books of this type (Fantasy), and there are many others out there that are much better written. The story is good, but the writing is just clumsy and the plot development is erratic. Characters show up and die for no apparent reason or benefit to the plot. Dialogue is too windy in some case, and too sparse in other places. The performance by the narrator was great, but he just didn't have a good story to work with.

Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

I read the book years ago, and I thoroughly enjoyed it at that time. I got it from Audible because: A] It was a long book (like many others on Audible, I have a long drive to work), and B] I was new to listening to books, and thought it would be easier since I had read it. Before and since listening to this book, I have listened to many other audio books, but this is the first time I have written a review. The book is great, whether you read it or listen to it, but what prompted me to write this review is the "Performance" of the book. It goes way beyond just a reading - there are multiple "Voice-Actors" and there is background music, as well as sound effects in certain parts. It was very well done. If you liked "Dune" the novel, you will love this performance of the story.
