"Simply the Best"
This book examines the role of the United States in the withdrawal of Soviet forces from Afghanistan in the 1980s. It helps the reader understand the "miracle" defeat of the the far superior Red Army and the roots of al Qaeda. Packed with little known facts about the war and CIA's inner workings, this book is fascinating.
"Edge of your seat action"
This was the best action thriller I've listened to in a long while. Excellent narration added to an already engaging and fast-paced story.
"One of my favorite books"
The book weaves a clever argument for prolific discrepancies between the progress made by our society and our psychological perception of it.
"Mediocre"
I am a big fan of spy fiction, listening to about 2 books/month. This one is slightly below average in my view. The storyline is passable, but hardly unpredictable, thrilling or thought-provoking.
"Highly disappointing"
The storyline was surprisingly thin. Being an avid spy fiction reader, I cannot think of a less intricate plot from anything else I've read.
"Terrible mystery"
Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the "Big Bad Wolf" by Patterson, I was looking forward to reading "London Bridges". However, it turned out to be more a completely unrealistic, out-of-character, linear story full of supervillians set on world domination. This would work much better as a comic book.
