Gail Carriger’s best-selling Parasol Protectorate series reimagines Victorian England with vampires, werewolves, and a dash of steampunk. Blameless is the third in the series starring the parasol-wielding Lady Alexia Maccon, formerly Alexia Tarabotti. After news spreads of her delicate condition—a surprise to everyone since she’s married to a werewolf—Alexia is desperate to escape the London gossip. So she heads to Italy for a change of scenery.

What was most disappointing about Gail Carriger’s story?

the first one was funny sexy, and fast paced, but they keep going down hill. Less suspense, less romance, less humor. and more unintelligible, made up science

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

the narration was still as good as the first

Milkman Dead was born shortly after a neighborhood eccentric hurled himself off a rooftop in a vain attempt at flight. For the rest of his life he, too, will be trying to fly. With this brilliantly imagined novel, Toni Morrison transfigures the coming-of-age story as audaciously as Saul Bellow or Gabriel Garcia Marquez. As she follows Milkman from his rustbelt city to the place of his family's origins, Morrison introduces an entire cast of strivers and seeresses, liars and assassins, the inhabitants of a fully realized black world.

Would you try another book from Toni Morrison and/or Toni Morrison?

Yes, but never another abridged one

What could Toni Morrison have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

not abridged it. I ended up having to read it because being constantly cut off and cut up was so distracting

Victorian romance mixes seamlessly with elegant prose and biting wit—and werewolves—in Gail Carriger’s delightful debut novel. Soulless introduces Alexia Tarabotti, a parasol-wielding Londoner getting dangerously close to spinster status. But there are more important things than finding a husband. For Alexia was born without a soul, giving her the ability to render any vampire or werewolf completely powerless.

What did you like best about this story?

The Romance, and the main character's spunk. It is definitively not historically accurate to Victorian England, but it's still good fun

The study of sexual physiology has been a paying career or a diverting sideline for scientists as far-ranging as Leonardo da Vinci and James Watson. The research has taken place behind the closed doors of laboratories, brothels, MRI centers, pig farms, sex-toy R&D labs, and Alfred Kinsey's attic.

Mary Roach, "The funniest science writer in the country", devoted the past two years to stepping behind those doors. In Bonk, Roach shows us how and why sexual arousal and orgasm can be so hard to achieve and what science is doing to slowly make the bedroom a more satisfying place.

Where does Bonk rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    definitely in the top half!

Would you recommend Bonk to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, it is incredibly funny and very informative. One of the most enjoyable non-fition books I've ever read. Better than a lot of fiction too

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

She wasn't quiet funny enough. She sort of skimmed over things that needed more attention, or a pause for the laughter.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

You could it's light and entertaining

Arabella Dempsey's dear friend Jane Austen warned her against teaching. But Miss Climpson's Select Seminary for Young Ladies seems the perfect place for Arabella to claim her independence while keeping an eye on her younger sisters nearby. Just before Christmas, she accepts a position at the quiet girls' school in Bath, expecting to face nothing more exciting than conducting the annual Christmas recital. She hardly imagines coming face to face with French aristocrats and international spies....

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

More or less, but Mat Damon narrates the second half highlights from 20th century and I think he does a much better job. I wish he could have narrated this unabridged version

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it takes a lot of absorbing. I had to put it down and think about it, reread it and then start again.
