Smite Turner is renowned for his single-minded devotion to his duty as a magistrate. But behind his relentless focus lies not only a determination to do what is right, but the haunting secrets of his past - secrets that he is determined to hide, even if it means keeping everyone else at arm's length. Until the day an irresistible woman shows up as a witness in his courtroom. Miranda Darling isn't in trouble - yet. But she's close enough that when Turner threatens her with imprisonment if she puts one foot wrong, she knows she should run in the other direction.

Would you try another book from Courtney Milan and/or Nicole Quinn?

Yes, I've enjoyed other books by Courtney Milan, BUT narration Nicole Quinn I will avoid. I can't believe the book responsible for the awful narration.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unraveled?

A the story begins and I think it's a joke! The voices brought visions of a witch coven (an outrageously bad imitation)

How could the performance have been better?

Leave off character voices or totally different narrator. However, the narration was more tolerable as the book progressed, or I just stop cringing. The idea that the heroine/main female character being raised by actors, and able to slip in & out of characters was the only benefit.
I was distracted but the cadence ... tracking the rhythm.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

    A good narrator

    Any additional comments?

It took many false starts to get pass the first chapter, and the story made me glad I did; however, I will confess I called Audible to return. (I kept it because the sale price & author.)

Richard Mayhew is an unassuming young businessman living in London, with a dull job and a pretty but shrewish fiancée. Then one night he stumbles upon a girl lying on the sidewalk, bleeding. He stops to help her, and his life is changed forever. Soon he finds himself living in a London most people would never have dreamed of: a city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels. It is a world that exists entirely in a subterranean labyrinth of sewer canals and abandoned subway stations.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Well spent? No, but it kept you listening...perhaps that's just my curious nature though.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

All I can do is stare at the blinking cursor...NOTHING comes to mind, but I'm no author

What about Neil Gaiman’s performance did you like?

His performance kept me listening and the characters clear

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No, the book is always better than the movie, well, except for The Mist by SK, but I did see it on TV, then searched it out and read.

    Any additional comments?

I'm still on the fence with this author. I've bought more books, and that's something. I guess I think he has potential for a good book (good according to me). I'm a nurse and this book actually made me nauseous =) that take some doing, but I scare me or make me laugh, not sick.

The fairy tale courtship did not turn into a happily-ever-after. Not until her husband dropped dead, that is. He had been horrible enough to Christiana during their short marriage, and she was not going to allow the traditional period of mourning to ruin her sisters' debuts as well. So she decides to put him on ice and go on as if nothing's happened.... Until the real earl appears.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, as long as they have a sense of humor and they're not looking for the "usual" historical fiction.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lynsay Sands? Why or why not?

Yes. I have many books by Lynsay Sands, just nothing like this one. Sands would have lost me on this one, if not for Sarah. I truly hope the next book really isn't a retelling of this one, I hate when that happens.

What does Sarah Coomes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sarah Coomes performance doesn't allow you to take the book seriously and that's the only way this book works, would ever work for me. I LOVE to read and have a great imagination, but I couldn't have read this book.I would not have made it through chapter two. The Countess is close to ludicrous parody of an historical romance and I admit, if it wasn't for Sarah's delivery/performance, I would have given up. Sarah Coomes performance totally MADE this book! I confess to "eye rolling" in the beginning, but Sarah not only kept me listening, but laughing out loud. Perhaps she read it in the way it written. It's like a farce and her delivery makes it hilarious instead of annoying. I actually laughed to tears a couple of times. Thanks Sarah =)
This book will join Helen's Babies read Kara Shallenberg as my go to pick me up, when I need a laugh.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

OMGoodness! I laughed to tears. Yes, I had extreme reactions, but honestly my first was "you've got to be kidding me," but forget the negative reviews and just listen. If you would rather read than watch TV (read for entertainment) and do not expect the usual romance, you may just may enjoy.

    Any additional comments?

I have found very few book that are not predictable, but just because you know where you're going doesn't mean you can't enjoy the trip. I am not one of those readers/listeners that looks for meaning or messages in works of fiction, but that doesn't mean I can't, don't, or won't see them if/when they occur.Christiana was emotionally/verbally abused during the year of her marriage to the so called earl. The self doubt and trust issue she has when her fortune change is very real and isn't overcome in less than 2 weeks, but that's why I read fiction. I'm definitely happy with the ending and the tiny small glimpse into a very real struggle, it beats having it skipped or glossed over.

Frannie Darling was once a child of London's roughest streets, surrounded by petty thieves, pickpockets, and worse. But though she survived this harsh upbringing to become a woman of incomparable beauty, Frannie wants nothing to do with the men who lust for her, the rogues who frequent the gaming hall where she works. She can take care of herself and feels perfectly safe on her own-safe, that is, until he strides into her world, and once again it becomes a very dangerous place indeed.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Well spent? I can't yes but it wasn't awful just SLOW literally and figuratively. I had to increase the narration speed and found myself trying to ”encourage development” lol (Imagine someone yelling at the television set during a football game!) Frustrating but keeps you listening WITH increased speed, unless my app is defective.

What did you like best about this story?

    The end

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Speech was so slow I increased narraron x2 (w/o any distortion) just to sound normal. I just removed a book from my cart because it had the same narrator.

The whole series has the SAME problem with sluggish narration.

Was Surrender to the Devil worth the listening time?

depends on the listener. It had likeable characters, though irritating and predictable there's ”fun” along the way. I put up with the narration so that says a lot for the story.
