"Love this series!"
I love this series. Katherine Kellgren is my favorite narrator, and the Royal Spyness mysteries are just fun. Can't wait for the next one.
"This may be my favorite Royal Spyness book!"
The story and "who-dun-it" was a lot of fun, but Katherine Kellgren's performance was stellar!
I loved that the story was set around an old, traditional, English Christmas. I felt like I was there!
They are all brilliant, but my favorite is Queenie!
Katherine Kellgren's "Queenie" makes me laugh out loud!
This may be Rhys Bowen's best, and I didn't think Katherine Kellgren could get any better, but she knocks this one out of the park! She seemlessly jumps back and forth between many characters, with many different accents. You eventually forget you are listening to just one narrator.
"I love Jacky's adventures!"
No, I don't usually listen to books twice...but I LOVE Jacky Faber!
Katherine Kellgren is, without a doubt, one of the best voice artists ever! She IS Jacky Faber. I seek out books narrated by Katherine.
No, only because I hate it when the book is over, so I stretch them out.
This may not be the best in the Jacky Faber series, but I enjoyed it very much. Jacky has become like an old friend and I very much enjoy her adventures. She is my favorite literary heroine and I will continue to buy as long as L.A Meyer continues to write!
"Fun!"
Lots of fun, and I learned some Egyptian history! Katherine Kellgren is just a brilliant narrator. I seek out and listen to any book she narrates! On to Book 2!
"Enjoyed it!"
I listen to anything and everything that Katherine Kellgren narrates. She is a masterful voice actor and absolutely brings books to life.
This is a fun fantasy. Likeable characters and an easy-to-follow plot. Just a good story to take you away from it all for awhile.
"LOVE this series!"
I almost didn't finish listening to this book, it was a little hard for me to get into until the action started getting good near the end. By the time it was done, I knew I had to continue on to Book 2. I am now on Book 4 and am completely engrossed in the life of Jacky Faber, one of the greatest characters/heroines ever! Needless to say, if you start with Bloody Jack and don't get what all the hoopla is about, hang in there and go on to "The Curse of the Blue Tattoo"...you WILL get hooked. I am a 40-something woman, and I listen and read all sorts of books, for all age groups. I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and I must admit, this series and the character of Jacky Faber are AS GOOD, in my opinion.
All that being said. Yes, the narrator is fantastic (I could do without the singing. I find it extremely annoying and usually fast forward) and the action is great, but I don't think some of the subject matter is appropriate for young kids or even young teens. I wish the author had not included SO MANY references to attempted rape and such, but maybe he's staying true to the times. Thank goodness there are 7 books in this series, and another on the way...I can't imagine a day without Jacky Faber and her adventures. She's a lovable one, she is!!
"Loved it!"
It took me just a little while to get into this book...I wasn't sure where it was going, but I stuck with it and couldn't put it down. I even fell asleep listening to it at night because I couldn't put down my iPod. I will miss hearing Abilene and Minny every day! It's the kind of book you just want to go on forever.
